Got a couple of good leather handbags at the car boot, I haven't decided yet what to do with them. (turn into pouches? dismantle for the leather?)

But they are very dry.

Will saddlesoap do it or do I need to neatsfoot oil them first?

Saddle soap is beeswax, lanolin and neatsfoot oil with soft soap

Leather food is beeswax and lanolin only

For dryness and stiffness, I would use straight neatsfood oil and then protect with a beeswax compound when soft

Exactly what BR says; but for best results apply the Neatsfoot to the flesh side of the leather, and not too much in one go - little and often is the way to go 'till supple. Make sure you use Neatsfoot OIL and not COMPOUND,
get it from a good saddlery or equine supplier...........................atb mac
