As others have said I leave my car in a village and walk in. The walking bit is all part of the experience for me and I often leave my car on a street in my own village, so theres not a lot of difference rearly. If I make it back to a more remote place for a few days camping I think I would take public transport just to relax cause its the family wagon and if it gets nicked were stuffed untill a replacement comes.

Yes it can be worrying. I had stuff stolen in the city a couple of months ago

In the bush I leave it at a longhouse or village and then trek in. I speak to the various headmen I know and ask about river, bush conditions etc. then ask permission to leave it. It is a point of honour and nothing will be touched no matter how many days I am away.

If there is no longhouse I leave it by the roadside and hope for the best. The blanket is a good idea and I cover things that might attract idiots.

A guy I know in the US tells me that it is best to leave an empty rifle case on the back seat and stuff that suggests he is a right wing loony. Claims never had a problem

I guess that's why me and my buddies never get our cars messed with we happen to"be" right wing loonies and its pretty rare when you can't find an empty rifle case somewhere in our vehicles:D

I have walked and biked most places in Scotland, except the far north for many years, over 143 munros now, and never had any problems. Although in May our canoe trailer tyre was slashed, not the tranist's though, that was at Loch Ard.

walking round that last bend in the path the car comes into view, i start mentally counting all the windows in my ten year old escort. it's a relief realising that they're all still intact.:)

cheers, and.

I've got camping with a van down to a bit of an art these days. :D

I'd say so.... It's a great setup mate... Although some soundproofing might be in order in case you invite snorers on the odd jaunt :sad6:

Great pic at the top by the way, Dashing young model in the frame LOL:lmao:

Statikpunk

Like it bayonet fixed must be down to the last mag.

My old man threw a coat over some things on the back seat of his motor, he failed to consider it might rain, local idiot broke the window and stole his jacket.

Hi Wayland

Been giving your comments some thought today regarding being or not being a bushcrafter. What is bushcraft if not a skill-set that allows you to enjoy your hobbies, pastimes or travel in the natural world with confidence and a degree of comfort I don't see bushcraft as being an end in itself but rather a tool or means to an end.

Buy a wheel clamp, lock it onto the wheel and take the keys with you, also leave the van unlocked and completely empty. It works for my landrover, no-ones nicked that yet although it has been opened and rummaged through. After finding nothing but a tow rope and sweet wrappers it appers the would be theives move on :)

It saves having the windows smashed or locks broken.
