Atlantic Canada
Hey everyone, I'm finally getting around to a thread of my own. I'm recovering from bone surgery in my face and starring to feel good again.

Here comes the boring part, where I say a bit about myself. You can follow my train of babble on Google Earth. I'm from Newfoundland originally, the Bay of Islands on the west coast. Take a look, go ahead; it's beautiful. Now I live in southern New Brunswick, not far inland from the Bay of Fundy. If you remember your world geography from school, you may recall it's where we have the world's highest tides. Actually, I just looked at Earth; the tide is about 3/4 ways up. If you're following, look for St. Martin's. It has a small harbour and a strip of beach with sea caves. Look in the Harbour and you'll see a, couple fishing boats thar appear to be stranded on shore. At the lowest point, the water will have receded out another four times that far. Now just watch Google update the area as soon as I hit Post. But I digress. If you're waiting for me to make a point, I apologize. I have ADHD and I ramble sometimes. Just a little factoid about something that's actually pretty cool to experience.

But yeah, I'm not working right now and with ADHD I gotta have stuff to do. Mostly I love to carve, either as an art but more as a craft. I have some kickass hiking sticks, I have a spear gun made like an assault rifle and a slingshot like a 410 guage double barrel. I have a link to my Proton Drive on my homepage with some pics in it but I'll put in more as I go.n

Also, I have a little crop of weed started for the backyard. Didn't get one done last year, but I'm in better shape now. Grew plants well over 2 meters that I'm proud of. I did some botany when I got my degree, so hey... Each year I push things a little farther to see what I can do to increase yield. I'll upload pics as I go and explain what I'm doing in hopes that maybe others will want to try it and provide feedback.

But enough for now. I'll let you digest that first. Hopefully you'll follow and post stuff of your own. I'm always open to inspiration. Cheerios,

Al

I hope your recovery goes well, and you find enough stuff to make to keep brain and hands suitably contented :)

Beautiful bit of the world you're in too....pretty good for rambling around ?

The only weeds growing here just now are dandelions, and well, that's subjective. I nip out the flowers, but come August I'm hoping to pull big fat roots to roast to make coffee :D

Come and join the conversations around this virtual campfire.....while I mind, dried hemp stems, are fibrous too, and broken up a bit they're great for getting a fire going.

Oh, the recovery is going great finally, thanks. Not hard to find things to do.

The outdoors is very accessible around here. A one minute walk gets me in the woods and another couple minutes is a beaver pond where I get sticks to carve. If I had a license I'd be able to fish there too.

I've heard that dandelion roots made a good drink although I never tried it. Back in Newfoundland dandelion wine is big. And I have a nice dried "hemp" stem that I'm interested in making into a fly rod.

Tks for the reply and coming up I'll get some pics on the line.

Glad to hear you are in relative good health and improving. I remember your spear gun and slingshot when you posted them on here.
Apparently they are reintroducing beavers here, appears to be ok at the moment but there's always the law of unintended consequences.
For fun I tried to follow your directions on giggle earth - is the harbour on the Irish River? I couldn't see one anywhere else. I've been following a you tube of someone who sails an 80ft sailboat singlehanded, based in Lundenburg, Nova Scotia.

If you found the Irish River you made it there. I'm about a 3/4 hour drive inland in Sussex.

I found Berkshire on Earth, a ways west of London. I saw on YouTube a project where beavers are being introduced up north in Scotland. I have a degree in Environmental Biology and that kind of thing interests me.

Yeah, Lunenburg is a beautiful spot; been down that way a number of times when I was working in aquaculture. All of Atlantic Canada is pretty impressive as far as scenery and a very traditional culture. And it seems Canada is on the way into the European niche now. Looking forward to it.

I got a couple pics posted of my plants in the cloud https://drive.proton.me/urls/059N9S98T0#L34TbHChOlhE It's not far in yet, but they'll get taller than me if I don't tie them horizontal. My plan, though is to see how far I can an push production with training.
One pic shows a chewed-up plant regenerating at the cotyledon node, and another shows a plant that got pulled out with the roots missing. So far they're both recovering. So if you're growing too, keep your damaged plants, they're super resilient and I think they do better when they're not fed with the proverbial silver spoon.

Yup, you've found me, about 50 miles from West London.
I've done the usual tourist BC route thru Banff etc to Vancouver, which was pretty amazing. But yes, I've heard the east side is also great and different from the west - future trip maybe. But by far the best thing about Canada are the people, so very different from the US. Maybe I've got a bit of a Brit bias, dunno.
Interesting photo album that, lots of interesting carving but I'd never have the time or the patience for it. Each to their own on the weed, it's not for me but many I know do. What's that with the fish, are all 3 fish co-joined?
