Hi folks,

Beer Monster posed a question whether the DDhammock could be used for ground dwelling.

I had a go today using just a couple of poles (these could be hiking poles) some tent pegs and some twine.

Quite a stable set up but with the use of more twine or cord on the outer loops, it could be even more stable. Just sling a small tarp over it and you're done.

Pablo.

Cheers for the pics Pablo, my only concern would be that you'd have to choose your site carefully or use a groundsheet as the nylon isn't waterproof. I suppose if you used a big enough sleep mat under the hammock you'd be fine too.

With the gnu!
Cheers Pablo :You_Rock_ . Good photos, and I think it'll be ideal system for my plans.

Andy you make a good point ..... I hadn't thought of that. A poncho underneath should solve it though.

I'd be more concerned about puncture/ damage from use on the ground, but a suitable liner of some sort under it would sort that. Something to consider if you can't be sure of finding somewhere suitable to be able to set the hammock up I suppose, which is a good thing to bear in mind.

Andy you make a good point ..... I hadn't thought of that. A poncho underneath should solve it though.

For certain you would need something (poncho would be ideal) underneath the hammock in anything other than a dry weather spell, but a thermarest between the layers (as in tree dwelling) would at least keep you (if not the bottom of the hammock) dry. No problem for arid climates though.

Regarding puncture, the material is probably more robust than you think. As with pitching a tent, you would ensure the ground is clear of stones and twigs.

Pablo.

ok guys i'm going to start sending my details out to every one in a day or so.
so far we have 29 orders(thats very good).the next price drop would come into effect at 45 and i don't think we will reach that amount and i'm not going to and push it to see if we can.
so the sooner i have all the money in the sooner we can all be happily swinging from a couple of trees in our nice new hammocks.
of course i'm keeping the group open till the beginning of january incase anyone else wants to join.
thank you all for joining this group and thanks pablo for your vid's and stuff ,i'm sure it helped with this little groupie
ok guys any questions please ask and have a merry christmas and a drunken new year:);)
