I have bought myself some german military binoculars made by steiner and I'm trying to date them.

Is there anyone knowledgeable on her with german binoculars?

They look pretty immaculate and new but I'm unsure of their age. I was under the impression that the german military haven't issued steiner binoculars for a couple of decades..

The serial number on them is 39387.
On civilian models the serial number is used to date them but the system doesn't seem to fit in with this serial number.( First 2 digits of serial number on civilian models with 5 digit serial denotes year of manufacture).

Don't forget:

1989 we had I think 300.000 men in BW, 200.000 in NVA

Today we have 100.000 I think. Or less?

So it shouldn't be necessary to buy next times new binoculars.
