I realise, I’m clearly clueless…
I was thinking rodent teeth maybe, but have no sense of scale.
My last guess. It had captured a live animal, perhaps rabbit, then another beastie bit it's head trying to get the rabbit for itself- either another weasel or mustelid?
That would have been my guess had I not spoken to the chap that saw what happened earlier and then showed me where the body was.
You got it. Grey Squirrel. The weasel jumped it, then the squirrel fought back. They both rolled down a bank squealing, then the squirrel bolted leaving the weasel dead. Lucky bite right through the cranium.
That doesn't surprise me. I have been told by a falconer that his Harris hawks won't go near a grey squirrel because they are too feisty. I've also had one run straight at me with serious intent to harm when I've been out hunting - luckily, I kept my nerve, and shot it when I could see the whites of its eyes 
I’ve seen a grey send off a buzzard and stand it’s ground against a fox and wire haired terrier.
I had a couple of greys as pets when I was a young lad, wonderful creatures
