£130. Not a hope in hell. Thanks though.

I'm tempted to suggest the Italian "Alpini" pack; 30 - 35 L, two nice lace - up side pockets and built like a tank; but I have a feeling you'd have to lengthen the shoulder straps for a bloke your size, but it'd be very easy to do; I swopped the straps on mine for those from an old PRI Predator in about half an hour with nothing but scissors and a needle and thread. Have a Google for it, they're brilliant packs and totally bombproof and fit in well with the "Vintage" ethos - I love mine, got it from Germany for £35 delivered and it came in three days, I'll try and find a link if you're interested?

Oh brill, I'm sweating just sitting here typing so that's gonna be fun :o

Rubber coated canvas padding 'sausages' (??? saucissons ???) on the back at the back will keep you nice and warm on the move ;)

Also a little too big I think. 35/40 is more than enough for me.

There's a smaller French pack ~ two different sizes, one with side pockets. They're a bit like the '58 Patt allegedly large pack but have shoulder straps (again you need to adjust straps before putting it on :o )

Probably too much synthetics for the vintage thing and you might (probably will) still get Sweaty Back Syndrome ;)

I'll try to find a picture of it and / or a link.

EDIT ...

from here ~ no connection, just the first link I found ...

from here (literally ;) )

Depending on its age / model / variant type thing you'll get more or less synthetic materials mine's a mix of canvas and rubber / plastic material:

If you are looking to go traditional, I would go for a vintage (surplus) pack. A lot of the new versions are very modernized, and I think they take away from the experience of using traditional gear.

None of the options will be particularly comfortable when fully loaded when compared to modern packs, but that's part of the experience.

Those Military1st packs are not original, made by MFH or similar; think the German version of Webtex apparently. I had the second one and although ok as a pack, some muck that was left on rotted the material in a couple of places.

The Norwegian 'Telemark' rucksacks - were they always made from cotton canvas, or did they switch to synthetic at some point? If the latter, around what year?

Think the second one is the one Wayland did a mini review on. Tis a tempting one that is.
The first one looks too modern to me.

It's a nice pack and fits a big bloke, I'd try and get the real deal if you can. Militarymart have them in at the minute.
I ordered one from ebay which had a photo of the issue one but I received a MFH one, couldn't be bothered to sort it out and kept it. But they got very snippy when I suggested they change their photo.

I've the latter of the two and it's indestructible!

Make it a Frost river mate- I'm on the look for a Nesmuk, sounds like it could suit your needs!

Here's a review of my Isle Royale:

http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=115961

It can go big or small- canoe or backpack excellent piece of kit and I have an will always use frost river - top company!

You can order the packs through woodland ways or direct- is used both services and both were good :).

Hope this helps!

The lack of waist belt puts me off a lot, or else I'd be placing an order today! How'd you find it?

Plenty of the small norgy packs at Endicotts............not very comfy to use. Defo need to put padding on the straps.
