You don't need a defence, the Blackbird is the best hammock out there by far

Sorry Drew I have no idea what you're talking about ;)

Pete, you made me laugh last time we were out, you actually managed to avoid making eye contact with my cuben loveliness for a whole 24hours before buckling. 184g, that's all I'm going to say :)

Serious hike up from sil on the Trailstar

And the cuben version is a load of pants, there's one poor guy who can't sell one on OM because they've had such a slating. Ron always said cuben would never work on the Trailstar, god only knows why he gave in and made them.

I'm guessing that its material properties don't suit, but for the otherwise 'cuben uninitiated' like my self ~ what makes it suitable for tarps but not a tarp-tent like the Trailstar?

(just edited your post instead of hitting reply, sorry about that)

I've just checked and somebody's bought it tonight, oh dear :)

The problem is there's zero stretch with cuben, the Trailstar needs plenty to get a good pitch with the long sides and single pole. You'd do just as well with a £5 woven pvc tarp from a builders yard. The cuben Solomid and Duomid work a lot better but I don't think they're a sturdy as the Trailstar.

No worries

I thought it'd likely be along those lines, thanks for the confirmation :D . So Cuben Fibre's lack of stretch is a boon in wet weather

Sorry for the slight derail Drew, but at least it's a relevant derailment :D (the downside being it might cost you some additional mullah! )

No point buying a lightweight cuben tarp and blackbird if your still gonna bring your bell tent along to cook in ;)
