Buying from Brisa

I have been a Brisa customer for quite a few years.

My latest order is on the way right now, consisting of orange g10, red and black acrylic and a slack handful of corby bolts.

I have had Fed Ex on the phone, saying they were going to report my order to the weapons department of customs. Turns out one of the ladies googled Orange G10 and must have seen a picture of a kerambit.

I have had to provide a link to each item I have bought and a list containing what I have bought, what it is made of and what I intend to use it for.

I will be ticking the DHL box next time and very very sadly, probably using another supplier, through no fault of Brisa.

Be careful chaps.

I wouldn't worry too much, if the customs open it they will just be a bit perplexed and just laugh, and in the long run they wont take too much notice of what Fed-Ex tell them, which has got to be a good thing.
Its normally up to the seller to list what the articles are for customs purposes, so maybe they haven't made the customs declaration clear.

Brisa have listed it. But the staff at FedEx have done a quick (poor Google search) and have forced me to take time out with declarations that I feel are intrusive.
I told them to open the packet, but legwork was required.
The tone of self important facetious staff didn't help.

It is all going a bit far. They are looking at every tiny thing looking to make a buck.

When a person does not even know that she does not know this is what follows. G10 is an epoxy/glass laminate originally made for circuit boards, not really dangerous in itself except if one sharpens an edge and hits somebody with it. Basically about as dangerous as a wooden stake. If extra costs are involved maybe you can charge FedEx for them for being idiots.

I did point out that if they googled brisa g10 scale, but no. I had to provide everything and a declaration.

I would have told them that I ordered it because I liked the colour and have no idea what it is exactly. They have enough well payed specialists to get it out.

Let them return it to the buyer and reorder?

I'm a little shocked that they can flag to weapons department without it having any weapon in it, not be on any prohibited list etc.

Have you raised it with Brisa? they might repackage stuff if this is going to start to happen.

Playing Devils Advocate here,
In a way you can't blame Fedex, it's all a matter of perception and if they think there is something wrong, then probably the correct thing to do is question it, there is a debate going on here about Potassium Permanganate, some say it's dangerous some have poited out you can buy it on eBay and the like, neither point of view is wrong' neither is right, and I am sure anyone who has read the thread, will take care and read the instructions before use, and quite righty so, if in doubt question, sometimes its frustrating and meddlesome, but maybe it is safer in the long run.

Well, I was indicated that when British customs required that foreign companies have to do the VAT collecting for them they had really not thought out what that means in practise. I would not be surprised if that would be the reason why all the trouble and it might well be that is the reason some small ones don't want to export to the UK at all. Just a note.

I think they want to protect the own production like this.
If one decides to live independent one needs to make as much as possible in the own country. And as the German history has shown it is possible to become totally autarkic if one doesn't have to fight a world war in the same time.
I guess that's more or less the current British project.

Well, Brisa have been brilliant. Fed ex have apologised after I ticked all their boxes two weeks ago and promised to send it on but it has been held every day including today.
Brisa have re issued the order with another carrier. Can't fault Brisa.

It is basically impossible to get in touch with fedex customer service either.
