Come and join us and Forest Knights who are the only Bushcraft school in the UK teaching Bhutanese bow-making. We’re excited to have them run this course for us at the BushMoot (You do not need to be attending the BushMoot to attend this course).

The joy of using large-diameter Bamboo is that by using an axe, drawknife and simple tools, you can shape your bow effectively in a day.

During the day, you'll split the bamboo with a Froe, shape the two bow limbs with an axe and drawknife, and join them together. Each bow is a unique creation, tailored specifically for you. This personalised approach is what makes our course special, and we consider the Bows finished when you get your bow to full draw. You'll also make an arrow and a bow string, because a bow without a string and an arrow is just a stick.

I’m looking forward to running this course at the moot.

It proved very popular at the Bodgers Ball. Some stunning bows were made.

Bargain price too. Cheaper than if you booked direct with Forestknights and visited us at our crafts base at Amberley.

Tony is always trying to give to the BCUK community.

Booking for the course will close on Tuesday evening as i will be travelling to the moot on Wednesday 31st. I need to know what resources to pack for each student.

Don't forget Tony has secured a discount for the moot from our usual price and you will leave the moot with a shooting Bow and arrow you have made yourself. So book now to avoid disappointment.

Hi, can anyone pleeeeease tell me what species of bamboo you used for these bows and where you obtain it in the UK?

I have made multiple bows at home with Moso, using different dimensions, but they all snapped :( It felt like the bamboo itself was too old and dry.

I know nothing of bows but I am a flute maker.
I can tell you that most British grown bamboo is of very little structural use. It tends to be thin walled and cracks open as it dries. If bow making involves removing the septa (partitions) then it doesn’t stand a chance of being useful as a load bearer. (It can still be cut for veneer and laminated but then you have a fibre reinforced resin bow)

If you find a source of imported bamboo that sells in small quantities I would be very interested.

Good luck with your bow.

I’ve been having a long & detailed discussion about these bows with @airborne09 . I have used the UK Bamboo company’s products and several others to create efficient bows for some time. These slats Linky are a good time saver but you have to order six at a time unfortunately. Perhaps get a group buy going or order some and share costs? Remember that with natural products not all of them will be ideal for use as a bow. Otherwise you can check out your local garden centres that supply bamboo poles and split your own. You want the following qualities in the poles:

- No damage externally : smooth and shiny with no powdery mildew etc.
- the biggest diameter pole you can get = flatter sections
- the thickest wall possible
- the longest inter-node distances possible
