Well.. This is how it goes.

One of my neighbours has a feral cat living in her garden and she was worried that winter might see it get ill or freeze, so we had a ring around and found someone who wanted a cat.. It's a lovely friendly little thing so I went to the local vets, bought a cat carrier and set about trying to get it in with the aid of a towel and 2 helpers..REALLY BAD IDEA!!. The cute little pussy cat immediately turned into a tasmanian devil and began fighting for it's life. I got clawed 4 times and bitten once all in the blink of an eye then it used me as a method of escape by climbing up my chest and over my shoulder. Fair doo's I thought and will try a box trap next time. So I went home, put some Savlon on the scratches and bite and went to bed later that night. I was woken by a really bad pain in my right arm and the cat bite had mutated (considering only one fang pierced the skin) into the pic below....

I ended up in hospital and the line you see on the right is where they said, if it goes beyond the marked area, I have to go straight back, My arm is in a sling and I'm on 10 antibiotics a day for a week. So when you think about getting close to an unknown moggie, no matter how cute they look.. DON'T cet close enough to get bitten !!

Nasty ! Not a good idea to tangle with a feral cat without full body armour! Or at least a pair of gauntlets. If you haven't given up on the cat, better to tray and trick it into a trap with some food. Your local cats protection league can probably help.

Good luck - hope the arm gets better soon

Looks like cellulitis - not uncommon with animal bites. I have admitted patients for intravenous antibiotics with infected animal bites. Human bites can be worse of course.

Sorry to hear you ended up with pus instead of puss... :)

I never normally need to get any closer than 100 yds ;)

 I've had a few cats go *nuclear* on me, but never got wounded like that.
Hope it all clears up quickly, and I agree with Shona's comments, the Cat Protection/ Cat Action Trust folks deal with feral cats all the time, well worth a call and a donation.
Besst of luck with things going well.

Nasty One there Dave,

what you need to remember is that pussy cats don't use colgate twice a day, floss, or use listerine. Getting bitten is very bad ju-ju!

I've heard it said that if you survive an attack by a 'big cat' - you will probably die of septisemia (blood poisoning) due to all the decaying meat in its between its teeth.

I guess there is some advantage to being a vegetarian then? ;)

i know exactly how you feel i had to catch a ferel at work a while back
loveable cat could pick her up no worrys
until the boss opened a cat box little beast went balistic
sunk her teeth into my finger right to the bone and scratched the hell out
of my arm had to go to A&E for a tetanus jab
jab hert for days hope you heel fast all the best

The problem being vegetarian Rod, is where Big Cats are concerned - vegetarians are mostly the ones being eaten.! :D

Not nice Dave.

Time to employ trapping techniques Dave. Deadfall or punji pit:D. however that would be illegal and unless the person that wants the cat wants it as a faux Davey Crockett hat, well need I say more.:D

You'll probably find that the cat won't allow you to get anywhere near it for a good time now as well.

Your best bet is probably let the cat get used to the box, place food inside the box and when it is at ease with eating in the box close the door on it.

As one of my advisors in college used to tell me, no good dead will go unpunished. :D Hope that heals up soon. When I was just a tyke I remember getting scratched by a kitten I was holding. Right in the nose septum. Hurt and bled like crazy. :aargh4: Ever since, cats have not been at the top of my warm and fuzzy list. ;)

Latest update...

The antibiotics are working, the redness is receding and it's not as sore. I'm gonna try to catch the little (insert expletive here) again next sunday. I'll try a box trap and make sure i'm dressed like this
