my first is in off but not in on
my second can be in in but never in out
my third is in bird but lives in a tree
my forth is not in fish but lives in the sea
my fifth is in stag but not in doe
my sixth is visible in light but is never in the dark
my seventh is in fire and also in ice
my eighth can be in something empty but not something full
my ninth is in whittle but is not a tree

what am I?
