Hi All, well the weather forecast was good, so my partner and kids decided to head up the woods, for a w/e of allsorts, little did we know how it would finish!

We had a great time, as i am sure the pics tell, lots of carving, one log challenge, fungi and tree id etc etc. Alison's brother and his son spent the afternoon with us, and we now have two more bushcraft converts.

Couple of things before the, not nice stuff, can you name the tree? More importantly can you name the fungi? Please let it be what i think it is.

The last few pics are in many ways the most poignant, we were just settling down for the evening, when we heard the most almighty bang! A lady had failed to see my car parked on the road, and had hit it. I ran out to find carnage, got the lady out and away from the smoking wreck, got her a chair and a cup of tea! (thank goodness for seatbelts and air bags) apart from bruising and shock she was fine (i have spoke to her this morning)

I do not believe in much , but fate is one of them, not ten minutes before we were getting stuff from the boot of the car! So without dwelling on what could have been, it's not time for any of us to meet our maker!

Sorry if any of you find the content inappropriate for a bushcraft thread, but felt the need to share, as usual any comments, good or bad appreciated.

Lucky Ivan...

Looks like a right off. Glad no one was hurt and that my car wasn't parked there :) Bet the boys were glad to be back in the woods. Catch up soon.

Great pics mate!! Looks like it was a great family day out until the accident.

Those Swedish torches are brilliant ain't they?

I guess the only way to look at it is that's its only a piece of metal!!

Thanks for the comments, it sure was a scary moment! I had the worst nights sleep ever in the woods, with what might have been! But all good today and as some have said only a piece of metal.

I am looking forward to doing battle with the insurance company, as the car i had, although old was immaculate, full service history and only 40,000 miles.

Anyway nobody was seriously hurt, and the boys had an amazing time, especially the beer can candle, and they were really peed off that we had to come home early and sort out the real world stuff!

Still, shiny hire car tomorrow and back up to the woods!

Ouch! And blimey!

I have had some concerns about parking there but also thought 'how could anybody fail to see us' - seems they could.

Looks like you all had a good weekend up to that point. Nice that we have some new recruits too.

Hi Paul, yes you have hugged the tree! And thanks for not giving the game away (with insider knowledge) The fungi, which was spotted by The Big Lebowski. We were rather hoping was, Inontus Obliquus or Chaga?

Sunny Wales!
Mallowa Marcius Carborunda.

I cant seem to find any reference to this, both individual or genus :)

Jeez Ivan. What a shock! At least no one was hurt but how the heck did she not see the car? Its a long sweeping bend.

All I can think of is excessive speed or lack of attention.

Hi Al, yeah she said she didn't see the car! Judging by the position she ended up in (total 360 degree, triple salco with a half twist! Also the fact she pushed my car (with handbrake on and in gear) 22 feet, it's amazing! Still the most important thing is we are all ok.

Would post more pics, as i took loads for the thieves ( sorry insurance company) but felt it improper (reg nos etc) and the poor old girl was extremely embarrassed.
