Sunny Wales!
Decided to hold a mini-meet in my favorite part of the world... Some stunning woodlands on the river Wye.

To save a 60 mile round trip, I decided to camp Friday night and Adam/Savagebushcraft kindly offered to come a day early,
even offering to do the Friday night meal, which was most appreciated. Cheers pal :)
The meal consisted of an African game stew with springbok and kangaroo (I think) cooked with tomatoes, chilli (lots of) and lemon juice amongst other things. Really, really good.
Some Impala sausages where kept back for saturday lunchtime.

Saturday we decamped to go and meet another friend, matt (not on here) that would be joining us for the night and go on a coastal/land forage tour.
Steve (Redandshane) also joined us for the night, and we found out him and rich (Brucephalas) had been camping no more than 200 yards from us on Friday night!
It was slightly gutting that the two groups missed each other, as it would have been great to share a campfire.

It was nice to show people around my 'patch' and the foraging tour was finished with some local raptor fans allowing us to watch a peregrine falcon feed its chick
(two have not made it sadly) via a spotting scope at an undisclosed location and was topped off with a nice pint of ale.
The journey then took us up to an award winning butchers where I had 3kg of prime flank waiting that had been marinading in mayonnaise, wild fennel, three corner garlic and fresh horseradish for two days.
In all fairness, it was an awesome lump of cow, trimmed to perfection. They have one very happy customer!

Time to get back to camp and start cooking!

Matt's set up. Despite him being an absolute top bloke, he's one of those odd ones that prefers the floor? :)

Dinner.
Marinaded flank served with a dollop of creamed horseradish sauce and a st george mushroom, see beat and saffron risotto.
The wild fennel worked superbly with the beef.

The night was finished with a few tipples and some excellent campfire conversation.

Thanks to Adam for being an all round great guy and gritting his teeth for the long walk to camp (now you can see why I shaved the kit down!)
matt for taking time out of a very busy lifestyle to join us in the woods again and also being a firm supporter of out meets and Steve for the many laughs around the campfire.
Be good to see you again.

Until next time...

Cheers, al.
