1980s Survival catalogue pages

Some members have expressed an interest in this company from back in the 1980s. Here are the catalogue pages that I still have, showing what was introduced onto the UK market back then. Many of these items are still on the market.

I remember my boyhood pal Al he got hold of one of Survival Aids catalogues and I remember the two of us sitting in a local coppice gawping at each page in absolute wonderment at all the coolness ha ha

I remember having a BCB catalogue when I was about 10 years old. Got it in a local army dumpstore.

Together with 3 mates we thought about what we would need to have to survive in the woods.

"Drooling" seems to be a recurring term used by folks who remember these catalogues! Do you remember the shock-and-awe launch of GREEN paracord?! Good Gawd...After we had all recovered our breath and composure, and rushed out to buy a pack, they announced that BLACK paracord was also available! Was there no end to this madness? Then, along came the olive green boxer shorts and DPM goretex..and a whole generation of penniless youth were lost among the wraiths of innovation, their voices muffled by the sound of the reactivated Ventile factories..

My repair kit pouch, a magnesium/ferro-rod fire starter and DPM basha are all Survival Aids originals. Stiĺl going strong and date back to the 1980s.

I saved up for some kit , sent money to them , kit never arrived , and lost it when they went bust.

I used to get lots of stuff from SA, to even on occasion travel up to their Morland shop when it was I went for a trip up to the lakes, or rather, the mountains of the lakes. One such trip rendered a Goretex bivvi bag for that weekend's trip doing extreme lightweight camping up in on the Eastern fells. Another time rendered a SA double Ventile Arctic Ranger coat and an aircrew evac compass, the brass button affair - of which I sold last year for four times what I paid for it after it spent thirty years in my wallet. The only thing I have left that is SA is the green Meraklon headover neck warmer buff thingy of which I still use. The Ventile Arctic Ranger - I made the mistake of leaving it with my mother of whom tossed it in the bin - I was not best pleased.

The excitement of receiving the new SA or SASS catalogue was something I miss very much. As a young teen the goods were well out of my range but I could dream...

I have a SA bivi bag I bought on here, was one of those sought after items back in the day

I still have a vacuum packed Survival bag .... not sure if I would trust it being usable now...
I had loads of their gear over the years - a lot of it for review when I wrote for the magazines - and visited Morland a few times. Never a bad bit of kit and their service was excellent

Happy days, fond memories of mainly the Euston shop but also the Moreland and Newcastle shops but the catalogues were the best. Bought the best sas smock ever owned there
