Spotted a couple on fleabay *without* hoods. Wondering if this was standard and whether or not the original NZ bush shirts were also produced with hoods.
TIA.
Any ideas?
The metal one 10 secs into this vid of RM seems pretty robust, but no doubt costs a bit.

Folks can actually see his stuff now!
I have no connection other than being a very satisfied customer. Ben is also one of the nicest guys you'll meet.
Newby carving questions:
- Should I use more than one grade of sandpaper?
- What grade(s) of sandpaper should I use?
- What type(s) of sandpaper should I use?
- What oils could I use to seal the wood (and what are the pros and cons of the different types)?
If another thread exists with the...
I'm after some everyday winter wear cargo trousers that are reasonably water resistant, but preferably not "shiny" or obviously waterproofs. Any suggestions?
Craghopper Kiwi Winter Lined trousers seem a possibility.

Very newbie / inexperienced question this one, but I've not come across the answer anywhere. (Oddly enough, none of the books bothers to explain what to do if the weather isn't perfect).
Once you've put up your shelter, how should you manage a fire in rain?

Type?

Q: Why do you need an underblanket when in a hammock?
A: Because you'll get cold if you don't have one...
Seriously though, the conductivity of air is tiny compared to the the ground. Is it convection (wind) that chills the bottom of the hammock?
As per the title, can anyone recommend a good campsite suitable for family camping in the south-eastern or eastern Peak District? Basically a nice place with good facilities. It does not have to be Bushcraft-friendly.
TIA.
This is a group buy for lightweight 20mm (18g/m) and/or 25mm (24g/m) olive green polyester webbing for hammock (or other) use:

I bought some of these guy lines from Woodlore a while ago when I got my tarp. The corner guys are fine, but the 7m ridgeline is restrictively short.

Recipe for sloe gin chocs:
- Harvest sloes.
- Make sloe gin (I added 250ml of pricked sloes to 500ml gin in a 750ml bottle).
- When the gin is ready, before adding the sugar, retrieve the sloes and de-seed them. (I found that squeezing them is easiest way of separating the flesh from the...
I think this is the final question I need to solve in my sleeping bag quest!
If you tend to sleep on one side and have a dominant side, should you:
a) Roll on to your side, but keep the bag on its back?
b) Roll with the bag so that the zip/zip-baffle is under you (hot air rises).
c) Roll with...
I'm in a complete quandary over a sleeping bag decision. I want to be able to sleep in the Winter (down to -10° say), but don't want a bag that is too warm or too heavy for Spring/Autumn.
Should I go for a heavier -10° 4-season bag or a lighter -3° 3+ season bag? Can a 3+...
I'm still on the AlpKit waiting list for a PipeDream 400 or 600, but I was wondering what others think of sleeping bag "features" in bags produced by the "majors". Cost aside, for 300g or so over the equivalent AlpKit bag, you can get a Lightline or Frostline ME bag with:
Vertical V, box wall...
I startled a muntjac on a walk today (they are quite common in my local woods) and easily found it's tracks. But I went one better and found muntjac tracks (sans muntjac) crossing a path in a completely different part of the woods. What's great is that I'm finding that I'm spotting stuff now...
Thought it might be useful to gauge interest....
Edit: If we can get firm numbers, perhaps we can persuade Woodlore to import a batch, or even go direct to Zebra in Thailand?
Lots and lots of threads on sleeping bags, so I'll try and be specific. I'd like a nice light and compact down bag, but my current thinking is leading me towards the following:
A synthetic bag. I'd quite like to keep my Sabre 45 packed and "ready-to-go" and permanently compressing a nice down...
Having seen my Swannie Ranger Shirt, my other half said she'd quite like one for Xmas. Unfortunately, Swanndri of NZ seems to be rather - how does one say it politely? - traditional when it comes to the differences between their men's ("It's a man's world") and women's ("I like fluffy bunnies")...
