Ross Douglass/Scorpion knives

I was perusing tinterwebs recently and came across this name and this knife on Scorpion knives website , firstly it’s like no Bushcraft blade I’ve ever seen and secondly I’ve and I don’t mean this at all in a disparaging fashion never heard of Ross Douglass ? Just out of curiosity anyone know anything about either?

Scorpion Knives is a brand used by Staniforth, but I'm not familiar with Ross Douglas. It does say 'up and coming designer' in the blurb so that may be why.

From a glance I'd have assumed it was a TOPS knife!

Ross Douglas appears to be a (seemingly unknown) bushcrafter rather than a knifemaker, this is made by Samuel Staniforth who have been making knives a fair while (since the 1800s or early 1900s I think?) but not specialising in the more outdoorsy knives as far as I’m aware.

Not sure that shape/design appeals to me, but I accept that’s very much personal preference.

I had the same reaction looking at it. It definitely does not have the usual bushcraft look, which is probably why it stands out so much.


My guess would be that Ross Douglass either had some input into the design or it was made as a named collaboration, but I would not assume he is a well known bushcraft maker just from the name on the Scorpion site.


I would actually be interested to hear from someone who has used one. The shape looks unusual enough that I am curious whether it is genuinely practical in the woods or mainly designed around a very specific style of use. That is the kind of thing I always want to know before judging something from photos alone. I look at Tropical Casino https://tropical-casino.com/ the same way, a slot can have an odd layout or unusual bonus mechanic that looks great in a screenshot but feels completely different once you actually use it. Real experience matters more than the first impression here.

It’s hardly great marketing is it. It’s almost like they don’t want to sell any. One picture that’s absolutely tiny and out of focus. In this day and age you really have to go out of your way to make a picture look so bad.

It’s pretty terrible isn’t it. As i say was wondering if anyone knew of or knew anything of the design and its designer.
