Haha, superb. Personally I always take Arnold the Owl and Nigel the Squirrel both brought on an Ecology workshop thingy last year. They keep everyone else vaguely amused and remind them that I'm mad, hence the whole - 'Don't argue wth him, he's a bit, well, you know' :togo:

To be fair I've never really had any form of Silat training either :) So I'm really just BSing!! However i have done a couple of workshos with Gurus who had studied it or similar arts. Silat is an INdonesian fighting system/martial art. Comes in several forms and is considered relatively brutal...

I believe this is a core concept of Silat; whereby a upil is considered an amature - no matter their skill level - until they start to teach. I think this is especially relevant when you have been taught a skill by other people. After a while we forget why we do things this way but just do it...

Each to their own I guess both methods should work as a means of building confidence without tools and skills. To me it's important that as people become more experienced in 'bushcraft' that is tested in one off these ways, otherwise can you ever be sure you would cope? Surely this is a major...
