Having just been back at work for a week, the prospect of packing it all in and setting up in the woods is looking welcoming - how many of those trees will tell me to "F*** off" when I ask them to stop digging a chisel into the kid next to them? (OK, trees don't use chisels, but you know what I mean...)

Anyway, every so often I look at the price of woodland - just in case there's 100 acres available for 20p...:)

Today I came across this site:

http://www.europeansa-online.com/forets-a-vendre.html

and started to look around.

Found some "bargains" e.g. 27,500 euros for 17 acres - you aren't going to find that over here.

So, what do people reckon? What with cheap flights/Eurostar etc. Does it make sense to look further afield? France is 4 times the size of the UK with the same population - lots of space to get lost in. Or, ¿fancy a bosque? Spain is even cheaper.

PS - No, I can't afford 27,500 euros either but I am marginally nearer affording it than the price of 2 acres for £25,000 which seems more typical over here.

PPS - 1 Hectare = 2.47 acres.

Friends of mine just bought an old farm house + land in the region called "La creuse". Very populair area with your countrymen because it resembles the English woodland/countryside I hear.

You could also try looking in the Ardenne region in Belgium. It might be shorter travelling.

Personally, I'd love to own a pieve of woodland but I think it's the same here as in the UK: expensive and rare.

Thought I would post a few random adverts that I found for your enjoyment.

Arkansas
5 acres, Ozark Mts. 17,500 dollars
120 acres 300 dollars an acre
40 acres, deer, turkey, wild hogs 59,900 dollars

Oklahoma
3 acres 13,500

As you can see, prices vary quite a bit but the lower ones are probably much lower than what you are looking at in the U.K. or Europe. But, it would be a little bit hard to just pop in for the weekend. lol

Now that's just making me jealous! :)

Time I got a green card - you don't know anyone looking for a British husband do you? (Not sure I'll be able to clear this with SWMBO!)

Kerne:

Our law here recognizes: sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, mother-in-laws, and father-in-laws, but I NEVER heard of Husband-In-Laws, so I think you are out of luck on that British husband thing even if SWMBO agrees!
