How do you get on with the Garmin?
My car Garmin seems to work on the same algorithm as their excellent mountaineering instruments which isn’t helpful!!!!!

On an A road that curves gently across the country It will pull me off the main road and send me through every mire and midden on unclassified roads as it cuts the curve. Then it puts me back on the same beautiful A road that I could have stayed on.
As it rates unclassified roads at 60mph I can’t avoid this. “Shortest route” or “Fastest route” is the unclassified road.
I check any route that I don’t know.

The display is brilliant and easy to interpret. I can see why it would work well on a bike.

Honestly I don't think there are any Satnavs that do a better job than Google Maps just for general car driving. The real-time traffic updates combined with the huge data input (most people just use Google Maps these days, which means you get the benefit of their live driving data) makes it pretty hard to beat.

The new bag has arrived. It's sooo floofy! Didn't realise how much loft my old classic had lost over the years.
Nice petrol blue colour, ethical down, + recycled pfc free fabric.
Most ethical bag in my price range.
I'm going to be so cosy, and I won't be needing to haul an extra fleece blanket for unexpected chilly nights any more.

Sounds great! I'm (im)patiently waiting on the delivery of a new down quilt that I pre ordered over a month ago. I had a message on Monday that they had arrived in the country so I'm hoping to have it with me next week.

I owe my girlfriend a bottle of Gin. Anyone know of any nice Gins in the Prime day sales?

She like Silent Pool so something in that sort of range i.e something nicer than what you'd typically get from the supermarket but not too expensive.

If you can find it there is nothing better than Malawi Gin.

This is the first supplier I found that had stock. There may be better ones.

My daughter and her boyfriend are off traveling in January, Joe her boyfriend is into wildlife and I was thinking of getting them some binoculars to take travelling, these seemed to have great reviews for the price so I took the plunge while Amazon had the sale.
Have to say I’m very impressed for the money, bit heavier than I was expecting, I just hope they do end up taking them and it’s not going to be one of those times my better half tells me to stop buying things for others that I really want!

My tom tom did that if I did "Plan a Thrill" - you have to learn how to use it. Wayz can send you off on some wacky routes too. I haven't used the Garmin yet - still sussing the privacy aspect. If it does that a lot it's going back.
Tom Tom was very good on the privacy front and deleted routes after 24 hrs unless you did a save. In France the police are allowed to seize your satnav and use it as evidence against you to prove speeding or anything else.
Garmin are not as good on privacy, and if you want updates you are forced to let them use your data for anything they want to. Using a phone on a bike to access Google is not great, and is not very bike specific.

Ha! I do not have a computer. All the updates are done on my wife’s laptop and it was she who purchased it for me so the data will be related to her!!

Hope it works out for you. Zero confusion at complex, multi-lane junctions. A clear 3D picture in real time that you can interpret at a glance. Vital when you are making so many decisions at several levels, more so when the steering committee is also offering advice.

It might be entertaining to take it to Swindon. :lmao:

The Magic Roundabout!

I’d like to see how the Garmin sat-nav illustrates this junction.
It’s not difficult to navigate if you think of it as a short (circular) two direction road with five ordinary roundabouts on it.

When roundabouts are close together as they are here in Telford, it’s sometimes difficult to tell which roundabout the sat-nav voice is talking about.

Sorry - all this isn’t about buying stuff!

A new down sleeping bag. My favourite mountain equipment classic 600, sadly no longer available, so got the next best 3 season.
Very peeved as I've had it almost 18 yrs, and it's my most used bag. Managed to rip it on a branch as I was airing it, and all the lovely "fluffy stuff" came out like a cloud . I actualy cried.
Could kick myself for being so stupid! I'm now over 300 quid lighter. Ouch!
:( :( :(

Aww, bugger. Did it with a bag trying to adapt it as an under quilt for the hammock. Got in and ripped it, gutted.

Glad you got something similar as a replacement.
