Hi,
For Xmas i got a burner to go under my much loved Crusader cup for use in times when you dont have a fire to put the cup in.
As usual i start to play with things in my mind, the burner runs on green gel and esbit tablets but how about dry twigs when you run out.
I found this video on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16FTpOP-sfM if you stop the video at 0.18 / 1.14 there is a metal attachment on top of the burner have any of are members got one ?
On the BCB web site there is a new system but the cup is made from ally.

Cheers

In the Crusader 2 there are holes in the Cooker base are designed for efficient air intake whilst the walls of the cooker provide shielding against the wind

I spoke to the lady in marketing at bcb a couple of months ago on this very subject while i was placing an order for something else. She said the one in the video was the prototype for the crusader 2 system. There is apparently going to be an extension mesh for the original burner. They aren't planning on selling it seperately though; it will be sold with a burner unit.

i asked her when they would be available but she wouldnt give me a direct answer just said spring/summer 2013

I spoke to BCB in october.
The lass was very non comital! But the gist of the conversation was it would be going on sale 2013 at some point around spring summer. They already have stocks of the crusader 2 sets which they were going to be focusing on pushing more immediately then they were going to introduce the addition for the existing burner at a point later on

I suppose it depends on sales with the new units as to how fast they follow through with the accessory for the old burner.

I also tried to get hold of a unit to do a review but they weren't going to let me have one. Buggers!!!

I am keen to find out if those are being made in China, like of those current ones. My preference would be for a UK made Crusader 2.

Is there some way that you can tell if a Crusader Mug was made in the UK or China? I have a couple of Crusaders and while they are both similar in style and made of Stainless Steel they look so different. One looks shiny and the other is very dull.

Looking at the pic in the video of the existing burner with the new extension mesh, well i'm going to find some of that mesh and give it a go and make one.

The real ones are made in the UK. The fake ones in China.

Hope this helps

All markings are the same except for the year, the dull one is 2012 and the shiny one is 2009

Well the dull one is definitely genuine as they all come bead blasted apart from the teflon coated version. I've certainly never heard of them coming with a polished finish as new. Perhaps it is a copy, or is a used one that has been refinished. Are they both the same weight and quality?

Even the BCB one I bought from RM Website has numbers yet ending with letter 'C' or something like that. I was told they are the China made ones by BCB, not fake. That's what I been told. Lately I have been looking out for those made by Arunfabs which are the bees knees.

They both feel the same weight and look good. It's a good point about the refurbished one though?

Arunfabs are marked with the name 'Arunfabs Ltd' . Only made in 2003 and very few in 2004. Ofcourse they are no longer military contractors for the crusader mugs. These had the year and the NSN numbers.

the BCB mug I received from Ray Mears did have an additional letter C at the end of the NSN numbers. They don't look like previous finish from BCB and should find out if the are the ones BCB gets from China.

Diamond Dave, did you notice the difference in the numbering on the front side of the two mugs that you showed? It would be interesting to know if the one on the left is similarly marketed like the one I bought from Ray Mears.

topknot sorry if I wondered away from your original topic.

The cup i got is stamped on the front with Arunfabs ltd about 20 mm up from the 0.5 make. On the inside of the cup you can see where it was pressed if this was done hot or cold ?.

No prob's Wigate, this is getting interesting with these cups.

Both the Cups have the Number- NSN CN 721 3131 on them only the dates are different, 2009-20012

I do have an earlier one which had a teflon coating originally but has been sandblasted and that numer is:- NSN 8465 99721 3131
