I can directly relate to that post Lister. I was behind a retired lady reaching her later years, she presented all her items to the till operator but held back a packet of biscuits and a few other non essentials. Her reasoning being she had little of her weekly monies left and what she had needed to cover the items of greatest need.

As it happened she was a few quid short.... She sighed to herself and carried on packing her bag with the other goods she could afford. I added those items to mine.... Paid for the lot and popped those items she wanted into her bag with a smile! I'm not well off but boy did I feel good! And to see the shocked but smiling expression on her face was just pure magic. I would say try it to anybody reading this.... Goodwill without explanation is not often seen anymore. Not trying to pat myself on the back but rather encouraging others to do the same.... Karma goes a long way. Pay it forward and it too will come back to you.

Well done!
It is an outrage to see the elderly, who depend on their pensions and who have been working and paying their dues all their lives, are being cut short in such an antisocial manner as they are these days.
They deserve a little something extra every now and then and I think you just made the lady's day or even week...

As for me....
My family and I just completed our first year here in Sweden and we are slowly... very slowly building up a new existence here.... Although progress is frustratingly slow I have seen my 3 kids grow in more than one way this last year and I am very, very prowd of them.... and of us, because we managed to get this far!

Just been planting....

We had a bit of rubble strewn land I used to dump logs on

This year I have covered it in some spare topsoil......

Just lately I have sown it with some wildflower mix and spare long grasses. The intention being to make another little habitat....listening to our naturalists about the importance of long grass, I wanted to create another small refuge.

I am also adding to this area some interesting plants that people have kindly donated to us. One that I have added here is soapwort. Mary (Toddy) kindly sent me some "starts" about a year ago - I have been pushing them along in a large pot and today got to plant them out!

...the feel good part? Well, apart from thanking Mary, I also noticed this wee fellah had adopted the "grassy knoll"

I love it when a plan comes together!

Thanks Mary :D

Sorry for a bit of a selfish post, but today I've been lifted by numerous events. Firstly, my finances have been dismal since the start of the tax year (HMRC over-doing their bit quite excessively) - today was pay day which would be a welcome relief on any occasion. But on this pay day I received backdated pay I have been battling for for months and also got a letter from HMRC with a new (and hopefully more accurate) tax code. All in all I've managed to pay off a chunk of the credit card bill I've accumilated and send out the funds for some nice new to me bits from members of this forum. Might even be able to exchange the tuna pasta for a steak at tea time tonight! All I need to do now is stop buying things from people on the forum and give my finances the chance for a sustained recovery.
In addition to all this I've smashed my personal best in some practice exam papers after an extremely arduous slog at studying - so might be in with a chance at passing it on the day - and its only 3 weeks until I can reclaim my life from this exam (for a bit at least).
Plus I received a new shiny sharp in the post today from Duncan at Dorset Woodland Blades which is now distracting me from study.

Great idea for a thread by the way.

Today the removal company have been and packed my house and all my worldly belongings, the next time I see them will be in 5-6 weeks time in Kamloops, British Columbia......... :)

Probably very selfish reasons but after the years of planning and in the process its the home straight!

Brilliant thread !!!...love it,...

I finished work on time last night and went home, a rarity these days!

caught the last couple of hours of my kids playtime in the garden with their mates,

the sun was out, i sipped a glass of red and and made a ring out of Hawthorn while i watched them run around like fools..

its usually the simple stuff that makes us happy eh?....

My daughter just got her results. 1 A*, 3 A's, 2 B's and as expected a C in math, but it's brilliant she's got the 6th form colledge of her choice and she could'nt be happier. Life's good today.

I'm also feeling on an up, just bought a new house and about to move in, had a great summer, lots of time outdoors especially in Sweden and Norway, I've just got a new client, and I love the Autumn which is just around the corner.
Might be miserable again in another few weeks though, but for now I feel able to contribute to the "feel good factor".
