Will be interested to see the splicing tool - can't remember how I made mine now - think I used the inside of a ballpoint pen. They've held up so far anyway... Do you have anything you can use as a safety bead to stop them pulling through? You can always tie a bit of paracord round it. Question is, once you've made them, will you trust them with your weight? I wimped out and bought 3mm D12 - the Amsteel they were recommending over on the Hammock Forum is thinner. Anyway, they're fun to make and use

Must remember the gear hammock as it's likely to be wet. Could always just keep my little girl's tent (she's coming on Friday afternoon), although it is purple with pink stars. I'll chuck my forge in to, as I mentioned - can't find a fan for it at the moment but if Bill remembers his airbed one, we should be fine... if the rain holds off!

Kepis: Shame you can't make it but work is work. I can nip over to yours on evening if you want to have a go with the forge, if you want.

Thanks Neumo, might well take you up on that.

Kepis, you'll be missed matey.

Cheers ears, i even had a load of unmade bow drill materials ready to go so you could make and use your own set this weekend, ok, ok it's really a pile of Hazel, Willow & Sycamore at the moment:rolleyes:.

That sounds like a plan for the mid-week one then, nice one. I think that the cover should be ok now with all the tarps, I'll bring as many poles as I can lay my hands on too. Maybe we should get a chute between us and ask John about some on site storage? I think Neil payed £40 or £50 for his new one at Forge Wood so it wouldn't be much between us. Collecting the meat later too....

@Kepis - that's a shame, mate but glad you're earning some pennies...

@beansprout - do you want me to bring some network cable?

@hemdale - do you have any tarp?

Last time I checked it was looking like April showers...

Hey Spandit,

I remember Neumo bringing one tarp but if you have a backup one, that would be fab !
When I see so much rain in London, I'm a bit scared now about this weekend.

OK, you can borrow my Eurohike tarp - it was slightly too short for me but if I remember you OK, you're not as tall so should be fine. Think it's got guylines etc. but I'll bring extra cord as necessary & try to dig out some more pegs

I'm aiming to get there for 3pm. Just find the site, pick a spot & set up.

Cooking wise, I bring my Swedish Trangia & a cast iron frying pan. Jack's bringing a griddle so cooking bacon etc. shouldn't be a problem!

If you are first up in the morning, it's your job to light the fire!

Oh, there's a Tesco not far away (in Forest Row). Just bring stuff you can fry or boil (or wrap in foil & cook in the embers)

I'll be there about 2 ish. All the meat requested is on board.

Let me know how much I owe you. That's dinner sorted, anyway :D

Will get some bacon for breakfast then I've got sausages for Saturday evening... Wild boar ones, I think (although I didn't mark them when they went in the freezer so I'll probably turn up with some frozen dough or something...)

Yeah, will do. Got to get bacon yet too. Found the big tarp as well, and have packed. Even packed a waterproof, which I never do, after looking at the weather.

Sounds like we will be sorted for tarps. I have just picked up some another length of 5mm rope, as well as some 3mm, so we should have enough to rig up several traps, which may be a good idea if it hammers it down. I have been toying with getting a parachute for a while but a group one sounds like a good idea. I know you can get them from Endecots or on eBay for £35+, depending on how ripped up they are; some are cheaper. They all come with a few slashes in them to stop idiots jumping out of planes with them. Might be worth thinking about.

As for Amasteel, yes I have several hammocks with home made whoopee slings on them. I learned at the Moot last year and have bought several lengths of Amasteel (1 medium & 1 thin bit). I will chuck those bits in my pack now so I don't forget them. I should be down around 6pm, all going well.

Neumo, Neil paid getting on for £50 for an unslashed one with all the cord still attached too, I'll get a link from him. I know it's a bit more but still not that much really between us. I helped put it up at Forge Wood and it was immaculate for the money.

Simon: I had heard that surplus shops were only given ones that had been cut too stop people trying to use them as parachutes. I agree if Neil can source one that is not deliberatly cut up then that would be good & worth paying a bit extra for.If we have a wip round for one then that is £5 to £10 each & if we use it every month then it is worth having. The only pain with them is getting them dry if we have to take it down wet, as my lounge won't be big enough....
