Which leather for soft pouches?

I fancy making some soft leather pouches for carrying staples (in ziplock style poly bags within). I gather reindeer skin is popular for this, but what others are there? Looking for something light, flexible, and preferably suitable for machine sewing.

How about goatskin?

What sort of thickness should I be looking for?

Dead couches, they're FOC.

Sometimes the leather feels soft but once skinned it can be quite thick. Just trial and error but the last one I got is very soft and pliable.

i really like working with and the look of saddle tan deerskin. it has a nice dark brown suede like feel on one side and a light brown/goldy colour on the other.

Thanks all. Am I right in thinking that goat is strong for its thickness? I guess the main thing is some degree of puncture and tear resistance.

I think I'd rather have goat than scrote. Especially not furry kanga scrote (too close to that ex royal butler guy doing the bsuh tucker thing on "I'm a Z-List Celebrity, Get Me Some Publicity!").
