you said it was fine and you felt comfortable with it.....its my style, primitive baz is the name and bushcrafts the game......

lol.

i reckon sitting on a rock with a ukelele singing tiny tim's "tiptoe through the tulips" should do the trick to scare anyone and everyone away from at least a 300 yard radius.

iv used charcoal a few times, no smoke or flames! i just used a big tin can and it works a treat. the only disadvantage is having to carrying the bulky fuel.
you can't have a night long fire but its great for cooking. tbh i think fires are too risky at night anyway. if they wanted to they could get the police to give you a rude awakening in the middle of the night!

you must live just south of HELL lol ... in your case just strip naked and run at them with your axe screaming, if that does nothing...well then the old saying "if you cant beat them.......join them".

PMSL i think that would do the trick...lol

I go wild camping most places, the art is to go deep into the woods or forest well away from any paths make camp late in the day/evening and be away at first light and leave no trace that you were there and you can come back to the same spot again at a later date if you liked it.

One problem I did encounter was one night I was bedded down for the night and I heard something/someone not far from where I was sleeping making a bit of a noise eventually it all went quiet, in the morning when I struck camp and was walking out I found traps had been set and I realised that the noise from the night before was probably poachers and I am glad they didn't spot me or it could have been nasty!

Just something to think about when you are in the woods or forest alone......You may not be the only one in the woods at night?

I too have had a similar experience to that. Was pitched next to a very large fallen tree over two feet in diameter with no tarp. Log was good few inches of the ground and I saw Poachers feet go past on the other side only four feet or so away! They fortunately did not spot me! Were carrying shotguns too!

As mentioned above, GOOGLE maps. I find the most remote locations, furthest from the roads, I plan my getting there, ussualy i use public transport-hiking as I do not want to leave my car on the edge of woods, travel, investigate, travel some more, make sure no "moonshiners" around doing there thing, settle down. Though I must say I would like to get a permanent place with a permitions and ect..

The really rural parts of Norfolk (mainly West Norfolk0 are often used during the summer months for illegal raves.......... just be careful where you stop.

Good advice to get well away from footpaths and keep the fires small, even better if in a firebox and yes watch for poachers and gamekeepers.

It makes me very proud and thankful that I live in Scotland with sensible roaming/camping laws I have the whole country to play in with no worries, and I can have an early bed and a long lie in without worry.
