I have a wolverine!

I like stick tangs, I'd prefer it to be a full length stick tang but I don't know how much difference it would actually make. I haven't used that wolverine yet(now you've gone and worried me!), it's been a long time since I got it but I'm learning sharpening first, so I've been using mora knives and I like em. Cheap, sturdy, and ugly as sin but they work which is the whole point.(I actually kinda like the looks of the 510)

Never tried a full tang before, I've been back and forth about which I'd rather have as my only knife out in the woods but I think I'm stickin to stick tangs. I mean they always seem to break when being battoned but that's what I bought my hatchet for!

It broke because the handle material was weak.

A stick tangs strength is in the handle material, i have handle material that i cannot physically break without tools and with them i have to hammer a chisel through it which even then is very hard to do.

With such a material on a stick tang it will be more durable than a full tang.

But regardless of all that it is a knife not an axe.

Id give anyone a £1000 pounds that could break the handle on my stick tang knives with stabilized elm handles by battoning. You just simply wont do it:)

So why oh why would i want to make them full tang and heavier and with more exposed metal?

Just dont get it:rolleyes:

im getting a wolverine, looking at the tang of the wolverine it looks pretty solid,
the wolverine is 2nd from the top.

ive heard of a kellam fang breaking, but the puukko and wolverne look pretty solid.

I really enjoy using stick tang and full tang, but i tend to use a stick in the winter as it negates any chance of the metal sticking to me if it's proper cold.

old thread i know, but i voted so i thought i best put a responce.

I like tappered full tangs mainly because if I am going to spend my hard earned dosh a a nice knife. I want somthing I like the look of aswell as being functional and I like the look of tappered tangs

Generally prefer stick - through or hidden I'm not fussed if it is of good construction & sound materials. There are many excellent full tang designs out there though.

Battoning - a full tang allows for alot of poor technique that may not be forgiven by a stick tang. Hitting between the handle & the work piece is to be avoided. Strike the spine so the force transfers directly to the work piece or where needs must strike the protruding tip of the knife while applying downward force to the handle.

if it is a survival-type/hard use kind of knife, i prefer a hidden through tang, peened over a solid metal butt cap.
for a normal knife i like long stick tangs.

voted hidden through tang.
