i am attempting to re handle a clipper type blade with a hidden half tang. i have got quite a bit of rowan wood and also 2 pieces of pine which are the perfect size for a handle. the pine is treated and is not as soft as other pine i have come across. i could also buy some other sort of hardwood if i can find some. what does anybody think? use the pine or rowan or buy some more? thanks

I would not use pine particularly treated stuff due to the toxicity of the chemical used, you don't want to be breathing the chemical impregnated dust:yuck:

Rowan is a dense sort to pale brown hardwood that can be used for turning and carving, it was even used for making bow in the middle ages. I don't see why you could not use it.

If you want to find some nice wood blanks for handles look here:http://englishrose.222.tripod.com/

I have bought some wood from them and it was quite good stuff and good service.

(That is if the North Pole is in England!:D )

I would try and stay away from softer woods like pine as they damage easy. If you get stuck ill see if i have a bit of something spare. If you want something a bit special try English rose great stock and nice peoples.

(no interest or links etc besides customer)
