What wildlife did you spot today?

I must get back up to the Hebrides; maybe next year - though the missus has her eyes on Shetland and Orkneys

about half an hour ago i had an encounter with a land crab (who -- as the name suggests-- live on land rather than near the ocean. they can be found waayys up in the mountains and usually come out after rain. not sure how common this is for crustaceans, but the females carry the young ones with them...)

Saw a gorgeous blue dragonfly on my stumble into the town today by the pond. Watched it for ages, but it was gone when I came back. First one I've seen this year. There is a bench by the pond, and I often sit for a while on the way home, watching the squirrels, birds, and pondlife.

Orkneys are one of the best places I have been. The megalithic circles and monuments are immense x

Enjoying a hasty post-work dusk paddle I was thrilled by the sight, and sound, of a stag and his hinds very close by on a small offshore island. A good feeling that will carry me through the day tomorrow!

i am from oldham. never learnt about snakes in uk. i dont find out about a thing till i actually see it and then find out all about it, which i do often,

Very young grass snake. It was only about 15-20cm.

I've just seen that, one of my favourite creatures, sort of remind me of work where I used sort out other people's mess.

We get quite a few here and they even sort out the cat mess.

Today my OH spotted a pair of mating wasps at it in a sun lit gorse bush. The new queen was much bigger than the male and they were there for several minutes. Not something I've seen before.

A first for me today while out walking, which was nearly a disaster- I just noticed a movement early enough to avoid treading on the only great crested newt I've ever seen! Nearly went flying with the tangled sequence of steps I did to avoid it. Turned round for a closer look and it eyeballed me for a while and crawled out of sight.
