What did you buy today?

  • BushMoot: Come along to the amazing Summer Moot 31st July - 5th August (extended Moot : 27th July - 8th August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
My local charity shop came up with two beauties today. A pure wool mammapacha long line cardie for £25 , brand new, and worn once, ( normaly about £180 ) and a brand new unused woodgas stove with a large bag of wood pellets and wax card firelighters for £8.00.
Both on my want list since before covid hit.
Patience is wallet friendly!

Thats grand.

All I scored recently was an Altoids tin and a short Yew plank. This was after no less than NINE charity shops.

But I had a grand day out in Wiltshire with my friend, and she bought plenty of clothes for her friend who is expecting.

(I did ask expecting what? But got no answer).

I got myself a shiny set of Maxtrax with a mount. I could have done with earlier in the week to help get a friends motorhome off a shallow grass slope.

Spent over £150 at a friends fabric and bits shop last day sale as they are closing down. Got a whole load of treated waterproof and non waterproof nylon fabric, plus several rolls of nylon webbing in various sizes and lots of D rings and self-jamming buckles. also a 5m roll of fluffy fibre pile fabric for sleeping bag liners.

I've lots of plans for these - lightweight bivvy sheet, ditto chimney sweeping floor and fireplace soot sheets, a variety of kit bags and a nylon milton bag like the ones made by Greencraft, but with a couple of mods I've thought of. Maybe a lightweight packable day sack for non-camping trips.

Just be warned, it can get addicting trying to find bargains. I also bought an L.L.Bean made in USA Polartec hooded fleece. This one will be for proper use out walking or dogsbodying etc. The Karrimor I bought for general wearing/keeping nice. I'm really looking forward to getting this L.L.Bean.

The purple bum bag will complement that beautifully :D

Well it arrived today. I'm really liking it, it's very comfortable and I love the colour. Almost too nice to take out on the hills

Question - and quite possible temporal shift tangent hijack...

Can you have 'lashings' of any other drink?

Lashings of orange juice? Coke? Root beer? - why specifically 'Lashings'???? I'm now curious.

There are only two drinks you can have lashings of, both served by the pint:

Ginger beer
Gravy

As a midlander who grew up near Manchester I am allowed lashings of anything but mostly fluids. Cream, buttercream, icing, tea, honey, ice cream but spices and sauces too.

I’ve never analysed this before but I use it more for foods that augment a main item such as cherries in a cherry cake, lashings of custard with apple pie.

It implies a generous application.
