A hearth board and drill for fire starting.

We stopped at a "Damara village" where a woman showed us around, her fellow women briefly told us about traditional herbs and their medicinal uses, showed us preparation of ostrich eggshell beads, one of the men showed how to make a simple blade from a piece of rebar (big stone for an anvil, smaller stone for a hammer) and another demonstrated lighting a fire using the hearth board and drill.

Picked this up for £10 - nice little aluminium cargo/carry box - I'll put it to use as a little field kitchen full of the key cooking bits and pieces.

Only thing I don't like about it ( Maybe slightly OCD of me ) is the latch...

Ideally I'd like to change it out if I can for one ( don't know the exact name ) that has a sort of fulcrum leveraged arm to lock it into place. Hope that makes sense - any ideas on what that type of latch is called? you tend to see them on bigger cargo type things , flight boxes , expedition boxes etc..

Anyway- the box - Good sixe - not too big , not too small

### edit - THIS is the sort of Latch thing I'm looking for if anyone knows a source. 1756027534637.png

Nice - you dying it or making some sort of bush shirt with it. Would look good either way to be honest

< Note to self - visit charity shops more often >
I haven’t really decided. It’s enormous & I don’t have an immediate plan for it tbh. Just couldn’t bear to leave it.

I've added some more lanterns to the collection

First off a pair of NOS Dietz D 90's till in their wrappers. I used one during the Steamtent Co-Operative meet last week.

I had this very nice Chalwyn Tropic Mk2 to unpack when I got home from the meet. It's had very little use and been fitted with a lovely Veritas Elephant logo's globe. I'll be replacing that with a chalwyn globe and keep my eye out for a Veritas Wizard for the globe.

All it needed was a bath to clean the dust off and I put the globe through the dishwasher for an extra shiny look :)

NKD. Ordered a prototype of Robin Wood’s new “planing sloyd” knife & it arrived today.
First impressions are very good. Usual practical Wood Tools handle & the blade seems very sharp & slicey right out of the box & should be pretty nimble with that profile.
Nice chunky heavy leather sheath to protect it too.
I’ve had one of Robin’s shallow spoon knives for a while & like it a lot, so I’m eager to see how this one performs. It feels good to be able to support a small business which does really care about the products they produce.
