Will you have a car?

If so, there are some great outdoor places to visit:

Dalby Forest (1 hour drive North of York) http://www.forestry.gov.uk/forestry/infd-947fh7

Falconry Centre at Thirsk (approx 1 hour drive) http://www.falconrycentre.co.uk/visitorinfo.php

North York Moors visitor centres at Sutton Bank and Danby (approx 1 hour drive) http://www.northyorkmoors-stay.co.uk/tourist/Sutton-Bank-Visitor-Centre.html and http://www.yorkshire-east-coast-unofficial-guide.com/danby-visitors-centre.html

Too early in the year for York Maze and the various other farms.

In town, a bus tour, ghost tour, walking the walls and the York Castle museum are all great http://www.yorkcastlemuseum.org.uk/exhibition/kirkgate-the-victorian-street/

Walk the walls, yes.

Check if holgate windmill is open, it's a short drive from town. http://www.holgatewindmill.org/openday.htm

If your lass or you are at all into sewing then go into duttons for buttons and go to the museum on the top floor. They are some of the top experts in the country, consulted by costume makers for period dramas.

Not far from betties, down the old cobbled street nip into the House of Trembling Madness; yes it is a bar but has a fantastic atmosphere (as long as neither of you mind stuffed animal heads).
