Well I tried sharpening the Mil-tec copy of the G.A.K Knife I spoke about above and what a p.i.t.a that was waste of time I've got a Hoover pipe sharper than the finished blade.
I used the Lansky sharpening system the stone version.
it cuts but a tin can would be better I know that there renowned for being cheapo's but I wasn't expecting the steel to be this bad.
Lesson learned

DBK review of the Soldiers knife.
There are some interesting bushcraft techniques used in this video.

Yeah I've watched this, these guys do a lot of good tests on loads of well known brands and types of blades.
There a good watch if you can get past the stupidity.

I don't know whether DBK have become less stupid or I've become more tolerant. I used to find their videos painful to watch but they are ok now.

Anyway, I don't know about the Soldier but the Hiker is one of my favourite knives and I've gained an appreciation for SAKs in general that don't feature a corkscrew!

They’re a couple of young lads who have turned a hobby into a lucrative business whilst having fun. I think they’re stupidly great. And after the amount of knives they’ve used and tested and designed and made and sharpened and modified, they’ve built up a very unique and exceptional knowledge. Sure they test knives to the absolute extreme, or used to at least. And they’ve blasted knives that they’ve done things too that will never happen to them in real life. And it’s useful to see. They’ve also modified their conclusions over the years to reflect this. I like that they are still friends and are still genuinely having great fun.

My Dad had (he probably still does somewhere) one of these. It is a Victorinox Trooper, which is the civilian version of the German army knife.

Unfortunately, it is mostly redundant in the UK, as it is bigger than the UK "without good reason" carry size, but isn't locking.

Another alternative to the Soldier's knife is the Ranger 78 M Grip. It has an identical tool set as the Soldiers knife but has a straight blade and the locking mechanism is optimized for right handed people. It also has a toothpick and tweezers in it too.

The main thing that put me off this knife was that I don't need something that large and heavy. I'm also left handed so actually prefer the lock on the Soldier's knife.
I have both, i prefer the 78. Although there is nothing wrong with the Soldier, they put the serrations in the right place for one thing, miraculously.

Well I finally gave in and brought 1 it arrived this morning, and I have to say I'm quite impressed looking forward to giving it some use this isn't the 1st Locking Victorinox I had a Older style trailmaster decades ago but the Soldier feels more substantial in the hand.
Certainty worth £40.
