vango contour, where to put a roll mat?

I've been looking at the vango contour and noticed there was no way to mount a roll mat, or other things, to the top/bottom of the pack, if anyone knows of a why or why it's like this (as many other similar packs are too) an explanation would be grateful

They usually have a series of loops that sit behind the two straps on the face of the bag that clip down the lid. You can weave shock cord through these and lash your bag on. A friend of mine used to place his sleep mat inside and unravel it to kind of line his bag.

fold it in half length ways, and 6 or eight along its length, then you have a flat mat the width of your backpack that is easer to stow, and a seat as you can fold it into a cube.
