Deer spp?

I've spoken to rangers from the forestry commission who've roamed the hills and culled, the nearest they can put to sightings ate Fallow and boar.

Don't know if that helps?

Id love to see the dog that leaves sheep in trees.

A Heavenly dog, maybe?

I'd love to see the docu. In the 15 years of watching Nat Geo, Nat Geo Wild, and all the rest, I've never seen or heard of this particular one. Seen all the others inc Ian Maxwell's, but the synopsis of those doesn't match.

I used the snow leopard as an example of it's markings and shape, i know it wasn't a snow leopard.

If theres a sheep carcass up a tree, why not rig camera traps around the area and get some good footage? If researchers can obtain pictures of one of the rarest cats in the world in the most hostile environments (Snow Leopards), surely it won't be a problem in the UK?

Haha, yeah, I have seen that docu. Not exactly epic programming. It was all a bit fluffy and not very in depth. But even he stated that just because he found no evidence during the making of the programme, he was loathe to admit they did not exist, and said it was certainly a probability. The Ian Maxwell one was better as he knows the indigenous species better, and also the alien.

Nobody has really focussed on the sound it was making. Must be somewhere to hear the sounds of wild animals; iphone app maybe?

I remember hearing my first fox howling at night many years back; frightened the life out of me! Lol

We've got a Bengal which has fudge coloured stripes (why we call it fudge :lmao:). It is 18" to the shoulder and over 3" tip to tip. It's father is a lot bigger and has been shown in the local paper as a local "wildcat" though it is house reared and owned.
Have a look here for a big 'un

Forgot to say he has a very high pitched squeak instead of a proper meow but can be very, very loud (as is his purr)

B efore we dismiss Foxes altogether I would like to point out that foxes with mange can look very strange, & loose skin folds could be mistaken for markings....Lets not forget that they were seen at night & with a torch so it's very difficult to judge size & it's unlikley they hang around so you could get a good long look at them....................not saying they WERE foxes but we have to be sure they wern't before looking for what else they might have been.
So from a recent post left by the OP the markings similar to a snow leopard that is to say, circular or ring like, also he's pretty sure it's a feline, (short muzzle, rounded ears , long tail)........he also stated that they were lean which may indicate that they don't have a winter pelage so possibly a species from warmer climes........

Thanks for all showing so much interest in the thread.

As i mentioned in the OP, the sound was that of a branch creaking in the wind, but in a short burst, no more that 1-2 seconds max.

I've been around and heard many'a fox, this animal had clear markings and a feline shape.

To my knowledge foxes have mainly a scream or bark? (...i'm happy to be corrected).

I've seen Ocelots in South America and it wasn't that browny colour or as thin.

The closest thing that i've seen after trolling the internet is the 'Andean Cat'. Obviously i'm not suggesting that it is one, but just to paint a clear picture so people stop thinking there's a tiger loose in Surrey! ;)
