7.30 AM for the first time I saw a barn owl in Edale. I have seen them 5 miles away but never in our valley before, broad daylight too.

The second first was first time in 13 years I have lived here the fast flowing mountain stream is frozen over, but then it was -13 last night and has not got over -5 for several days.

And the last first was seeing folks skiing the footpath out side my workshop.

i was out in the woods doing some camp cooking and shooting my bow today and also saw a owl not sure what sort i think its the first time i have ever seen one
i love hearing them when camping in the woods alone amazing how loud they are

preparing a walk for a sailing group when an owl flew across my path about 5' away, then back across twice. a while back but still a first

I do a reasonable Tawny owl call impersonation, which usually enough to get a 'conversation' going with them (might be an argument, actually!), and often gets them to fly in for a closer look. Amazing how they move so silently. Great birds.

I have noticed birds today and thought their behaviour is a little odd because of the weather. I too saw an owl sitting in a tree by the road and at least five buzzards in different places, just sitting in the open. I can only assume that when it gets this cold the birds that normally hide away are prepared to come out in the open just to catch some warmth from the sun.
