Maybe the show should scale down and be held at rough close

:lmao: I've been nattering with the site about hosting Podcast Bobs' alternative outdoor show :lmao:
We have the basic 'ok', but there are some logistical problems.

EDIT: For accuracy I should mention that using the site was Bob's idea and not mine.

Sounds interesting, but the cynic in me thinks those big time operators that could shift some kit at overly inflated prices (you know who you are out there) would only come along for that sole reason. Too many people were saying about how commercialised the hobby has become, I'd hate to see RC get used by that sort of person. Having John turn up and sell some of his wares at very reasonable prices is more acceptable, I doubt he sells these things at a loss but he doesn't rip anyone off. That sort of salesperson should always be more than welcome.

The idea is to get in the smaller, more specialised, trader - like backpackinglight.co.uk. Companies which are generally overlooked when folk look for kit.

That's not so bad. I used to enjoy Andrew (outdoorcode) coming along to the meets before it all went belly up. When it was working it was great, just a shame that so many people ended up out of pocket when it all went Pete Tong. Having a company on site with the goods for you to look at before parting with your cash is a much better way of doing things, the amount of 'schrafty kit I've bought that turned out nothing like I envisaged it from internet pictures.....

Here Here.
After rereading my post I now realise that my suggestion in jest could be the undoing of what we have at the midland meets. Anything grander than a tarp full of stuff on the floor for sale would ruin what makes the meets what they are (maybe???)

The Midlands meet is basically a social get together where you mix as much or as little as you like, we had a few selling bits and bobs at bargain prices this time which I doubt you would get from companies no matter how big or small the company is, I personally think you have got it pretty much sorted as it is and if people want to bring stuff to sell or trade thats great

If (a big if in this economic climate :( ) the altshow happens it'll be a separate entity to the Meets :D - camping would still be available though :D .

My life!
Of course I am ripping folk off!
The gear I sell is either second hand - and I get it basically free - or it is made by an incompetent who just has fun making things (me)!
Sell at a loss - no.
Sell at inflated prices - every time!
But not as inflated as in a shop...
where they have strange things callled overheads!
Keep giving me your money folks:D

Well, I still think they are competetive prices! I liked the Dragon Breath steel, very basic but boy does it fore off the sparks! I have a Jason01 fire steel, had it for many years now and it's showing some wear from use. I wonder if it needs re-HTing as I heard the hardness can reduce as they wear away. The outside is obviously the hardest and it reduces as you go towards the core. Either that, or if you do your steels individually......

;)

You mean that kettle you sold me was not a Bear Grylls original?
But surely it must have SOME celebrity endorsement or it would just fall to bits?

You mean John Fenna isn't a celebrity? I mean manufacturers GIVE him stuff for free and it's not because he's a pretty boy :D so he must have some celebrity status.......

As this thread has been quiet since Mid April and with just 220 days until the show, I thought I'd give this thread a quick bump.
