Tale of two sides by me...
Some of our traditional pubs closed or changed hands a number of times. Of course it's sad to see a building used as a pub for 300 years change use but at the same time a lot were not viable or were the type of place that needed to close. Out of 6+ that closed 4 are likely never to be pubs again.
The result has been that, despite the establishment of a huge Wetherspoons and a clone, two local brewers have taken up two of the older pubs. We have two real ale pubs nearby and a good few beer festivals each year. In the background the other good pubs, village/town, food/drink based, have got on well.
Maybe we are lucky but the only pubs to disappear around here are the ones that deserved it.
