The more you practice your knots the easier they become. :)

very true but knowing a good knot for a particular application does make life easier. you can improvise and just use any old knot but you often find you need to cut it out to get in undone wasting cord.

I found this video to be very good also

the knot in the link of fgyt's post is NOT the same knot as in the mears video. In fgyt's diagram the last turn is taken ''behind'' the first two turns and is taken around ''one'' strand of line only which is behind the loop formed on the peg, in mears vid the last turn is taken ''forward'' of the first two turns and is taken around ''both'' strands of line which form the loop around peg. The ''adjustable guyline hitch'' and the ''tautline hitch'' are different knots tied differently, I prefer the adjustable over the tautline as it seems to grip better. This paul kirtley link shows the adjustable knot tied very clearly, note the last turn is taken forward of the first two cinching two strands together.

Just around the tree and then three turns towards the tree and then another turn around both lines. Easy peasy. I do the 4th turn on the other side of the three turns . Works just the same.
It's based on the Taught Line Hitch I believe ( look at about 6 mins 30 secs in)
