i have scanned in a page of text as a image and i want to convert it from an image to a word document that it was when it was printed out the reason for this is i want to edit the text how do i do this

I don't think you can mate, the scanned image will be a jpeg made up of pixels rather than actual text

You need to find an OCR program (optical character recognition)

Optical Character Recognition is a bit of a minefield. It's a very difficult task. I've had best results from Tesseract:

Unless you're looking at hundreds of pages, tt will almost certainly be easier for you just to type it.

Try to get hold of the trial version of ABBYY Finereader 11 (Google it). You can then convert the PDF to text, but it doesn't always convert correctly so check every little detail before and after making your alterations. You only get ABBYY for a limited period too so don't delay in using it.
