With the permission of BcUK - is it worth telling these people that their lack of service is being spread across this (and other?) outdoor sites?

I take your point @Chris but if (hypothetically) I tell them that I’ve reported their lousy service on a website then only I am liable for any libel and I would have the evidence of the lousy service.
However I’m sidetracking the thread.
My only dealing with them was OK but I understand the irritation and feeling of impotence that customers who have been let down feel.

I don't want to cause any trouble, I'm really just venting my frustration. I've gotten a refund from OutdoorGb and ordered the same pegs elsewhere with next day delivery. Really it's a just an inconvenience and I'm grateful that my biggest worry today has been a matter of tent pegs!

Good evening,

I realise this probably isn’t the right place for this, but I feel obliged to let others know about my ongoing experience with Prepper Shop UK and after reading this thread decided to post. As others are probably aware, they are quite a popular choice for archery and prepping equipment in the UK. Their reputation is ok, with 3.9 stars out of 5 on Google, however this had dropped significantly over the past 6 months it seems and following my experience I can see why. Also, a lot of their reviews are quite dubious.

I ordered some new archery equipment including a new bow, around 20 days ago. Within 20 minutes of ordering, I realised I’d ordered the wrong one (my mistake, I don’t know how that one even ended up in my basket). I think they’d sold out of the one I wanted and as such there had been a mix up at checkout. Either way, I sent an email within 20 minutes of ordering to say I wanted to cancel the order. I’d had no confirmation email following the order like every other shop in the world does, which was odd. I decided to contact them by phone, which goes straight to an automated message saying they are sorry but cannot answer due to sorting some orders in the warehouse. I’ve since discovered they’ve had that same message for 4 months. So they are not contactable by phone. After 6 hours, I get an email to say the order has been cancelled. The email was vague to say the least. 18 days later, still no refund. My bank have advised me they cannot see that any refund is even underway or being processed. Prepper shop UK are now ignoring my emails. To my horror, I then start looking into them to discover at least 30 other people have the same problem and dozens of 1 star reviews have recently been added to to trustpilot and Google. Some of those reviews state they’ve never received a refund, others state their bank have had to go through the rigmarole of processing a clawback. Others are reporting to Trading Standards. Another person says they traveled 4 hours in a car to approach them in the shop about it, to which he was not welcomed. Clearly, they have good reviews too, however that’s just from people who’ve received a product and are happy with it, as opposed to actually having an issue that needs sorting.

Naturally I’m now in the process of clawing the funds back, reaching out to Trading Standards, seeking further legal advice should the claw back fail and also making others aware.

***update - it’s now day 18. No refund. No correspondence. Not answering calls. Bank are trying their best to get money back. I will be sorting this one way or another***

Hi Simon,

Best way to deal with this is to ask your bank to do a charge back. They'll probably ask you for evidence you've been due a refund, at which point they'll reclaim the funds on your behalf. This shouldn't be a tricky process, and I've used it myself several times - not sure why the bank would be struggling with this?

Most banks will do this with debit cards within 180 days of purchase, but you have even better protection if you used a credit card.

Sorry to hear about your problem, I did get a very fast refund, but I did pay by PayPal and requested a refund through PayPal so I guess they wanted to stay in PayPals good books.

I did too spend hours trying to contact them by phone to no avail. I comment on their Facebook page a few times, and saw other people commenting about their misfortunes, but comments were quickly removed.

Used them once, never again, shocking attitude, their grade 1 used stuff is awful, ordered a drinks canteen and cup, no matter what I used to sterilise it, I got a horrible taste from it and it looked like it had been buried and dug up.
When I contacted them, he eventually answered saying, Too be fair it was one of the best they had and I was lucky I didn't get the other ones!

They sound very similar to an outfit called prepareforadventure.co.uk back in early 2020. I think the guy who ran it did a runner with a lot of peoples money, including mine.

I've also had a very poor experience with them. Late posting items due to not replying to me about age verification i sent even though i specifically said for them to reply if there was a problem. I waited a week and chased it up myself. Never received any courier info let alone tracking. (Which they say they always send)
I was then sent items that were past their best before dates by around 8 months, this wasn't stated on their listing when I bought it. Tried to call and automated message told me to email.
The replies were very unprofessional. They "couldn't understand what the problem was" and stated that ration packs last forever even saying they get returned and the dates changed on them and sent out again. Now I know these things can last indefinitely for being safe to eat if stored correctly but quality is certainly compromised as time goes on and there's no way to tell how they've been stored.
Eitherway the way it was dealt with was shocking, not even an attempt to make good, apologise or even admit their downfalls. The messages got increasing passive aggressive and rude.
Conversley, I had a problem with springfields recently. They were quick to reply, offered a refund without return of the product and even refunded me more than I spent! Now that's what I call customer service. It is still out there, albeit much harder to find nowadays.

They also vet the feedback on their website. So all the 5 star reviews are misleading. Unsurprisingly my 1 star review, whilst completely factual, never made it onto the website

Definitely not a fan. Made my 1st and only order, emailed to ask about grade 1, bought a uk military water bottle, delivery was late, it looked like it had gone through a few battles, the stench from inside was horrid, and was missing its cup, contacted them only to get the reply of - yep, that's grade 1, you're actually lucky cos that is a good grade 1 and you can buy a cup from us if you like !, I paid for the bloody cup and bottle but they just ignored me, took a week of flushing and loads of bicarbonate to sort the smell, loads of messing about to clean the outside up too. No doubt most have had pleasant dealings but I'm happy to be stung once and walk away, same as all the Chinese sites and tiktok shop, buy cheap get crap.

I would never buy from them again. You do get great service from some shops out of China, two i remember are Sofirn (torches) and Baofeng (radios), have ordered from both at least twice and items have arrived complete in about 5 days or so and communication has always been fast.

Absolutely, Petrified Fish knives are another, I bought direct from their site. Also had great success with a few Ali Express sellers, obviously, you have to pick and choose, but not all Chinese stuff is tat, there is top grade stuff, cheaper than you would pay here for the same thing, there’s also a lot that should bypass the consumer and go straight to landfill. :)

Has anybody dealt with this company before?
I feel you're pain! Earlier this year I got a taste of PrepperShops slack customer service skills.

Now baring in mind in been a customer of their's for a few years, before they managed to even make it on TV (personally I noticed a massive decline in their customer service once ITV come along) before that the phone lines where always open, I can't really speak for emailing as usually all my queries where solved over the phone normally on the same day.

However as of late I've seen quite alot of people complaining about PrepperShops customer service, receiving wrong items or items being processed in a reasonable time if at all.

My personal experience was I made a order on the 10th and waited till the 19th to make contact with customer service through phone and email with no luck at all, what annoyed me was I know someone else email customer service on the 20th and they received a reply back from them straight away!!

Inbetween the 19th and the 22rd I had sent 3 emails with no reply, one of which was a email asking for a full refund.

It took them till the 23rd to finally get my first contact back from them, when I threatened to take legal action against the company.

Funny enough one of the items I ordered was the Wayfarer!!
How are you getting on with it?

Have to agree, DONT buy from Preppers shop UK.
Dodgy as a £3 coin!!
Bought boots, boots fell apart, returned, got sent an email saying they had refunded, but zero refund in my paypal account.
I've left a review on google reviews with photos.
Also going through trading standards as well, as I'm not the only person who has been screwed over.

I've not had an issue with Prepper shop, I've had ammo tins from them in the past. They've just sent out customer survey. Might be a good time to given them some feed back. ;)

Online shopping I think you take your chances with graded surplus kit. I've had some disappointments on condition but also a few things that were olive green gems!

I much prefer a physical store but they are thin on the ground now. There are a few online suppliers I have consistently good service from though. Mentioning them would probably jinx that!

are you replying to me with this? I know about the grades of equipment.
The boots were grade one, almost new, so to speak. And they were that, when they arrived, and before using them to go for a wander to the shops in.
The foam perished, just fell to pieces, then the rubber sole started to come off, so basically there was nothing between the sole and the bottom of the boot.
I emailed them on their standard email, I attached about 6 pics of the boots.
And got an email, back from the guy who owns the place himself, or rather it was signed with his name.
I printed off the returns label, 2x copies, 1 inside the box, 1 stuck to the outside and off I did send it.
You would think it was that easy.
No.
They got it back, I have proof.
They sent me an email saying they have refunded me... but NOTHING is in my paypal account.
They have blocked me from their facebook page, so I can no longer post on their page.
They wont answer their emails.
They wont answer their phones. No one is apprently getting through to them, including certain legal representatives.
Youre a full member, I'm a silver trader....... that might give you an idea why I'm so p155ed off.
I treat people the way I want to be treated, If anything I sell breaks, I'll either replace or refund.
IF someone says to me, they havent had a refund through, I'll check to make sure paypal, in my case, has done the refund, or not done it, I'll then contact the person back, and go.. Heres a copy of part of my paypal statement, showing the refund. Thats the one you used to buy X product.
OR
Sorry buddy, paypal didnt put it through, I've spoken to them on the phone, and they are doing it with the next 12 hours, if by 16.30hours of the 45th of jan, (fake date for this example) message me back and I'll tear them a new hole.
I wouldnt block them.

That all said... I have purchased certain items, that have been said to be grade one, in the photos they look grade 1. They have arrived and have been grade 99, if you get my meaning.
I've then messaged and asked, is this the same one in the photo?
And been told, no, the photo is just an example. (like someone else in this thread, who bought a grade 1 water bottle and had a ball ache getting it to stop honking)
I've looked at it as a learning event...... bit the bullet, cleaned the item, repeatedly, and eventually got it to about grade 2, this isnt about that.
These boots fell to pieces after maybe 3miles. Meindl desert boots... I used to have a pair of them, wore them to death, sold them on a car boot, for £30 i think, back in about 2017.
So, wanted another pair, wanted a pair in 2023 for a charity motorcycle ride I was doing to Morocco and back, couldnt get a pair anywhere.

Ozmundo, you might be the lucky one, not to have been sh4t on.. yet.
Take a look at the 1star reviews preppers shop uk are being left on google reviews and trust pilot.
Their ratings are rapidly falling.
