I'd just like to say a big, public, thank you to the guys from Tamarack Outdoors who ran a Bushcraft training weekend for a group of Leaders from East Lancashire last weekend.

We had a very wet weekend, which did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the instructors and pupils - although we did retreat to the huge tarp for a brew during the heavier downpours:rolleyes:.

The course covered many topics, including:

  • Equipment and clothing talk
  • Knife, saw and axe maintenance and use
  • Fire ( preparation of ground, ignition to full establishment, tinder's, feather sticks, extinguishing )
  • Spoon carving
  • Woodcraft gadgets
  • Tarps and knots
  • Plant and tree identification and use
  • Tree felling

Many of the Leaders present have been in Scouting for years, but it is a testament to the knowledge and skill of the guys from Tamarack, that they all left feeling that they had learnt a great deal and enthused to pass on their new found skills to their own Scouts.

The weekend was a full on introduction to the field of bushcraft, at no cost to the Leaders other than a donation to Help for Heroes, the chosen charity of Tamarack.

So, on behalf of all the Leaders who attended...thanks guys!:You_Rock_
