Suffolk Bushcraft Group

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
Have got a 6' x 4' shed for the group. It's seven years old. but not in bad nick. Does anyone have any treated 4" x 2" about 4' 6" long, 4 or 5 pieces, that we can put down for a base. I can probably fetch it up for the December meet, or we can leave it till after the new year.

PS, Maybe some old pallets would do for a base, perhaps the land owner might have some?

WOW mate thats grand news, I will check this weekend with the Landowner if its OK to use.. Can we leave it for the mo please.

I know that the landowner does nopt have any spare pallets, he struggles o find enough... could we uae it a basis for the Composting Bog?

Having looked into composting toilets I am thinking that a long drop would be better for us. It would be a lot easier and cheaper to make, and would not require a volunteer to cart a bucket of nasty to a composting site

I'm thinking the same. It'll only be used once a month, and a one to two year composting cycle, before it can be used. One long drop could last a couple of years, before needing to be moved.

The 17 century barn I have been working on uses a long drop, simply because it does not get enough deposits to make a composting one worthwhile, she reckons that they get less than a bucket a week, we generate that once a month. For urinals they have 2, one a standing and one squatting, and you go on to the grass and weeds that have been put in there for composting as the nitrogen in the pee helps in the process, every now and then they are emptied out onto the main compost heap.

Once the long drop is full it is caped and marked, a new hole dug and the toilet put ovef the top.

Yup just make your deposit and sprinkle a hand full of saw dust on top. Should be able to collect plenty this weekend where I will be chainsawing
