Oh the smoker, I don't want to get too far ahead with the projects... think its a good idea, we still need to re plaster the clay oven, make a door for it ect., and June is the Shelter build, I like the idea of the smoking, but think its one for say sept/oct so we have green about to cover it :)

The roof for the oven need sorting out too, at the mo its too high and offers next to no protection from rain, it really needs a box type affair to go over it when we are not there, would not take too long to lash up a wood frame and cover in plastic. If I remember correctly there is a few inches overhang of the slab base either side for the frame to sit on.

Stu I was pricing up bits the other day and Merlin worked out cheapest for what I wanted. With Merlin though you buy the feather singularly, so its the same price per feather if you order 1 or 3000000000

If people are desperate to smoke things I do have a smoker I could bring along, but you would have to get it from my car and back again as I aint lunking it up to the woods, and as ash isn't the greatest for smoking your own supply of wood chips would be needed

That looks interesting.
I'm not in a rush. I was just thinking ahead to save the wood because I know that apple is one of the better woods for smoking.
I'll save as much as I can and when it's bone dry ill triple bag it and put leave it in the shed till we need it.

Fruit and nut woods are the best, fruit gives a gentler smoke than nut acording to a couple of websites I have seen. I wknder what hazel would be like

Those smokers are stupidly expensive, but I got lucky as my neighbour when I had the misfortune to live in ipswich was chucking it out, he said that this bbq didnt work as the grill was too far from the coals :)

I am sure he had only just learnt to walk upright, if I had suggested such a thing I would have just got a confused gormless look or a smack in the mouth :)

I was tempted with the pine shafts I look foward to seeing yours. I found out that while my current arrows will go through a sheet of corigated steel they dont like it too much, the shaft passed through but bust off at the whipping one the fletchings sending them 10ft in the air :)

i'll have mine at the next meet, may bring the Air rifle as well, it will not be as bad this time as the track is OK to drive now, so drop off/pick up of kit is easier, we will still have the same rule of only two cars at the woods tho

I'm considering leading a skill-share. I can train everyone in the fine art of sitting around the campfire scratching our nuts and telling Really Big Fish stories, because that's what SWMBO believes we do on these weekends.

Any interest?
