Mods, before I start, if this is in any way inapt, please delete the thread. My intention is only to warn other members of some extremely poor service I have had.

On the 5th of June I bought a Jack Pyke 500ml water bottle

from an ebay trader - "The Hunting and Fishing Shop".

The bottle arrived quickly, but the threads were damaged, making it leak when not upright, so I contacted the seller and was told to return the item for replacement, which I did the very next day. At this point it went very quiet with me sending multiple emails to the supplier asking what was happening.

Eventually, I opened a dispute with Ebay and the seller finally agreed to dispatch a replacement, which arrived today 16/08/08. Sadly they have sent me a Jack pyke insulated 480ml flask -
jp_flask.jpg
not a water bottle as ordered - and this is also damaged around the neck, meaning that this will not seal around the stopper.

I have emailed the seller again, and asked for a full refund as this has now dragged on for over 2 months. At the same time, I have also opened a Paypal dispute.

"Buyer beware" is good advice, which is why I checked the Ebay feedback before the transaction. At the time it was positive, but in the last month 10 people have also been treated in a similar fashion.

As a follow up - I rang the supplier today and asked for a full refund.

Initially the guy said that couldn't be done, as the purchase was more than 60 days ago! Damn cheek - It was him that kept me waiting for a replacement item for over 2 months! Anyway, he eventually agreed as long as I sent back the damaged flask. I asked about my out of pocket expenses - remember this would be the second item returned - and asked for £2.95 per item as this is what he charges for P & P. He baulked at this but has refunded my initial outlay.

I have told him that if he wants his damaged flask back then he can send a courier for it and if it is not collected within 30 days, then I will dispose of it.

As per the title of the is thread - Steer clear of this trader!

This is a good use of a forum imho. I have had some dreadful experience with merchants of all sizes both locally and distance buying.

The only way to ensure you get what you are legally entitle to is to stick to your guns AND spread the word about the service / goods you received (or rather didnt in some cases).

When no one buys from them they will soon start looking for the answer as to why and hopefully they wont be too short sighted to realise that people still communicate with other people in the 21st Century and we the consumer have rights and big gobs.

Equally of course when I have had good service then I will wax lyrical about the seller and direct other people to them and I will also stay loyal to them too.

Anyway finished on my :soapbox:.

I had a bad experience recently - I bought some black 3mm paracord and had to pay for 1st Class registered post as part of the deal. Stated delivery time 1 - 2 days.

A week later the black para cord had not arrived by registered post so I fired off an email and got the run around.........its in the post, its already gone, who are you again, etc, etc.

So I told him that I was giving him 2 days for the good to arrive, long enough to allow him to rectify his mistake if he had made an administrative error and 'accidently not posted the item'. If I did nt receive the item in two days I would be reporting him to ebay, paypal and also the police...he would then have to prove he had posted the item or be charged with theft. I also casually mentioned that I may mention to his local authority that he was running a company from his house and they may want to consider imposing business rates on his family home.

I got the item the next day, well almost.........it was green cord not the black that I wanted.

What a coincidence .... the name on my Paypal refund is "The UK Shop"

That makes at least 3 trading names for this guy - maybe he likes to spread the negative feedback about!

I had a problem with an ebay shop once, ordered some items waited 3 weeks but they still had not arrived, in those 2 weeks i had emailed them a few times with no response.

I ended up using my sherlock holmes powers and i tracked down his home address, home telephone number and mobile number, called him and complained. the items arrived 2 days later :)

The internet is a wonderful thing if you know how to use it!

Here here,

Its obviously not a one off with this guy and I'm sorry but I don't care if i buy a length of paracord or a golden fleece - if I enter into a contract with someone then I fulfil it and I expect it to be fulfilled by the other party.

Even if as in this case it only is a piece of string - the seller only needs to do this with a handful of people and suddenly he is raking it in. At best it's bad administration from him and at worst it's simple theft.

I will ask you to look up "Hightee Butzlaff" to see real investigative powers, using the internet alone, to catch somebody trying to pull a fast one on eBay.

I would consider reporting this fellow to eBay, not sure on the multiple user names thingy.

I had the opposite happen to me I ordered a fire steel mag block American army issue, the guy sent a pack of 4 with about 6 blank rods when I contacted him to let him know he had made a mistake with my order and had sent out too many he just said never mind they should last you a while then :D

That happens now and then. if the dealer wanted them back, it would be up to him to make the postage and packing up for you to send them to him. He knew it probably wasn't worth it, so let them go. Plus, word of mouth can be a good thing if you are a good egg. ;)

Yeah absolutely,

Great service for the US seller, I've just ordered a bushwhacker wood gas stove from Jim at trailgear.org and he the reduced the price of the mug that they use with it and also chucked in a backup meths burner and fuel bottle - great service and excellent communication through email.

There are loads of companies that have the right idea when it comes to dealing with punters but unfortunately its the bad ones people remember and talk about, hence thats why I think its important to have a good whine about them (assuming its warranted of course).

There's nothing more irritating than when you get appalling service from a trader or end up out of pocket and then someone that you know well says ''yeah, that happened to me too with that guy. I was gonna say something but...''.

:cussing:

Forum rants about bad traders are very, very welcome.

Hmmm interesting thread. I just had a really weird experience. I ordered a small couple of pieces of kit that I really wanted to review - had a rubbish experience with the first retailer, mixed with the second (messed up bad style but gave me a small item as compensation) and superb experience with the third. All trying to buy the same items from the same manufacturer.

Funny old world

How can you be addicted to ebay? It's a horrible place :yuck:

From what i know of ebay you're very lucky not to have had a bad experience.

Have to be honest been using the evilbay for a while now and have only ever come accross good vendors it seems that i must be one of the lucky ones!!!
