I was looking at Uco Micro lanterns today; 14 quid!

So I took a tomato puree can and made some holes in it...

formed a bail from some small wire ...

and put a tealight inside ...

TPT7.jpg

The bail folds below the can, a yeast can lid snaps on top & it will hold 5 tealights...

Have you got any Mica sheet Ian?

I haven't but I don't think it needs anything like that. I thought about using a piece of clear plastic cut from a PET bottle (the natural springiness would hold it in place) but thought better of it. I'll see how it goes in the field and modify it as requisite.

I like this kind of thing nicely made
Yours is much neater than the kind I cobble together in the field from foraged cans and plastic bottles
Also empty plastic milk bottles
Having said that I am about to test a UCO lantern with the oil insert

That's neat, tidy, effective :D It just works  I like that Ian, you've even got storage sorted out :)
I bought the Uco tealight lantern when I worked out how long I got from the Price's long life tealights, but price wise your's wins hands down.

cheers,
Toddy
