Bushcrafter (boy, I've got a lot to say!)
Decided I quite fancy a sling shot. Not getting out much with my air rifle. Plus having just moved I've not yet got anywhere to go. So thought about a sling shot. Don't know the first thing about them so any pointers would be appreciated :). Cheers

Contact fish he is a member here possibly called fish fish now I think He used to make them and is a thoroughly decent bloke if he has not got any I am sure he will advise you

Would you recommend the double or single bands for a beginner? Are the single bands still suitable for hunting?

Personally unless you're a bloomin ' good shot I wouldn't be hunting anything but rats with a catty. It's too easy to maim.

The single bands are fine for target practice. Doubles will send it even further and aren't much harder to pull. They're fairly easy to reconfigure so buy both sets and start off with singles.

I was thinking mostly for target shooting rather than hunting with. in all the years I've had an air rifle I've hardly killed anything I didn't eat :) I tend to mostly frighten tin cans and card board cut outs lol

I'll give fish a shout. I did look at the ones on ronnie sunshine......

If its the David and Goliath type sling shot then have a look at:
http://slinging.org

Plenty of information there and they are great fun.

From the rest of the thread, I think that he really means a catapult.

I know that the septics call a it a "slingshot" and the term seems to be gaining ground even amongst the population living in the UK. Annoys me, as you can probably guess...

And the David & Goliath type is properly called a "sling' rather than a "slingshot." I supposed technically the term "slingshot" isn't really correct for either type.

really meant trebuchet. :P

I don't mind either a sling or a catapult. Sling looks like more fun....equally more likely to hurt myself!

The Pocket Rocket 4 from gamekeeper catapults is a lovely slingshot one of the best on the market, well made and very nice to shoot + with the options of hunting or target flat bands.

If it’s for target shooting I personally prefer tubes and use the Chief AJ which is just a modified Trumark S9. The top end target shooters are a bit more cash but check out the Barnett Pro Diablo II for just under £30 or a top end Bill Hays side shooter.

For just starting out @ around £7 the Barnett Strike 9 is great wee catty, probably the most underrated slingshot out there, with a nice pistol grip and good solid prongs, stick on a set o the red magnum power bands get some 9mm steelies and if you can shoot straight its a match for any slingshot on the market.

Or go with the wise money.
Barnett Black Widow, Simple easy to use, sturdy & cheap

PS.Has anyone else noticed that Barnett have markedly improved the quality of their leather pouches lately!
No connection just credit where credit's due.
