Bushcraft is such a big subject, with so many avenues that I find it difficult to define what we do. Some may call me a camper, some a bushcrafter, some a survivalist, because the kit I have is varied. One time I may go out with a tent just to enjoy being out in the woods, next time I may choose a hammock and tarp, next might be just a tarp & bivvi. If I can build a fire I may not take a stove, but if no fires allowed then I will need a cooker. I do not set out to learn and master all the skills and make my pack lighter, neither do I carry the kitchen sink unless I'm setting up for a week or more. I enjoy picking up useful skills which interest me but not other skills which do not. My plant and tree ID is terrible and would enjoy learning a bit more on that subject. My point after all that is, I have the kit which helps me along with my skills and knowledge, to get out and enjoy natural surroundings, in a way which I find most to my liking, wild camping yes maybe, but I am no Ray Mears, and nor am I a Bear Grylls either, I am me and enjoy what I do helped by the kit I need. There again that's just me and my take on it.

Camping is temporary living quarters innit?, it's my opinion it goes hand in hand with bushcraft, I've never slept under or made a shelter other than erect a tent, there's always a first time

It would be nice to take as little kit as possible, especially at my age (near 62), lol I've bought meself a tarp and other kit, all down to finding this site, I've done the winter 150 mile treks in the Lakes over five days with a bad ankle, fell through snow up to my waist with about 35lb/40lb of gear in our rucksacks {mate and I), stopped at streams and cooked, washed in the freezing waters at 7am, loved every minute.

Done the same when fishing, carried the kitchen sink and all great fun, but that was 25 years ago, I have made meself a stove, basic but again through this site, can now light fires without matches and can tie some good knots other than fishing knots, my kit doesn't cost the earth but it suits me.

shewie i dont think so my mum and dad would have a fit and also allready just baught me car
also inregards to my question it was meant as in your opinion on your gear and what you say is you perfect piece of kit but this thread has given me alot of ideas
