I took my 12 year old son to a four day meet once and he took his teddy bear.When we arrived he unpacked his kit and hid his teddy bear and told me he didn't want the other kids to see it as they might think he was a bit babyish.
Later in the evening when all the kids were around the campfire getting ready to turn in ,every kid there had a teddy on their lap.My son asked if it was O.K. to go and get his too.

Teddy bears are a great leveller.

Sorry for resurrecting a thread that had run it's course, but this seemed the best place for this post.

Clearly a reader of these boards knows who I am in "real life" because today the postman turned up with a fat and squishy jiffy bag out of which popped teddies! It was sent anonymously so I don't know who to thank.

Whoever you are - THANK YOU VERY MUCH! It only remains for me to decide which of them is to be my travelling companion.
:thankyou::mexwave:

I have carried a soft toy on a camp and other trips a few times, but I wouldn't do it regualy.
I mostly stopped after a school trip to france in year 6 (so when I was about 10-11) because some muppet decided that it would be funny to throw my much loved (and somewhat threadbare) teddy out a window. turns out he was still holding onto poor old pooh's leg when the rest of him went flying out the window.
I also once left a bear (named tim) in a travel-lodge while going to a family holiday in cornwall.

since then, I've realised that they are too vunerable to idiots on group camps, and I'm a bit scatter-brained, so I don't carry one.
once I start solo camping I might start carrying one again, as a sort of companionship
