Our 'bushcraft treasure hunt'

So I decided last weekend that I was going to make our usual bimble in the woods a bit more focused, and see if I could find out how much of the 'background noise' has been sinking in with my 7 year old son...

I have never done the pic thing before, so we'll see if they work...

Anyhoo, my hyper whirlwind of a 7yr old, was so focused I was amazed. He managed to Identify for me, amongst other things:

No less than 10 edible plants,
3 poisonous ones,
3 trees,
2 fungi,

We 'stalked' a family of deer,

and he spontaniously informed me that one of the dead trees had been killed by honey fungus

Turns out I'm not talking to myself after all!

Thats really impressive Iona it looks like you have kindled a good intrest in him. My son is 9 and he would struggle to identify as many as that. Keep up the good work. Great pics too.

I can't wait till my boys are old enough so I can drag them to the woods properly. The older one is just two though.

The only thing he can correctly identify at the moment is "harley motorbike", amazingly. SWMBO is not amused
