Hi:red:
I know the whole smock thing has been done quite a few times now but I am trying to find someone who sells them as I am in the market for one.
The cheepest one I can find is at Genuine Army Surplas at £69.99. So my question is does anyone know of any for sale any cheeper? Or would I be better off buying a M65 Jacket instead?
Any advice would be great!:You_Rock_
Simon1:thanks: :D

I have a pertex lined, ripstop Arktis SAS Style windproof DPM smock for sale if your interested. I'm in work at the moment so I don't have any photos but I can post some later.

Thanks for the offer Greg:D but I am after a olive smock or jacket as I don't want to look military when I go camping / woodland walks.
Squidders why would you go for the M65 rather than the Smock ?;)

I like that it's built like an outhouse, has a removable warm liner, big chunky zip a hood that really does pack away, that it looks less military because it's old school. I found a place that does them for £40 including the liner... not the cheap aussie ones but good ones. I also like that it's a proper jacket and not a coat.

These are not comparisons against other jackets, just reasons why I like it... had one for years now and after a wash it still looks new.

Thanks Squidders I think I may go for a M65 rather than a smock as I was thinking of getting either or;)
Thanks for the input ,its helped me decide but just one more question squidders can you use the M65 in most weather conditions i guess they are water repelliant not 100% water proof?

I also have an M65 and have had it a year now, it was used for the shooting season and had stood up very well. Another good thing about it is you can take the liner out and use it as a thin overcoat
In answer to your question - Yes it is water repalant but not 100% waterproof but to be honest if your wearing something under it your not going to get that wet.

they only resist water for a little while... the little hood is a token gesture at best... As with ventile, I would combine it with a US army poncho. Even Ventile the bushcraft wonder-fabric soaks up the water and while it may keep you more or less dry - you still have to dry the bugger out!

The other option is to get some proofer on the jacket and I think it's got a degree of proofer on it when new... the water did bead off before I washed it.

Mine has a label inside with the usual numbers and stuff... I will take a pic and e-mail it to you if you like.. may help you in your looking.

Also, it's worth checking that it doesn't have any random velcro straps to tightn the collar or a thin zip... the good ones have a heavy weight brass zip and are perfect without other peoples idea of "improvements".

Cheers,

Joe

Hmmm. Am now thinking of getting an M65.:o
From what I can see, they come in M-40" and L-44". Since I'm around 42" can anyone tell me if they fit big or small (with liner).
Cheers.

Aye I bought one of there a while back. They really are quite good and at £20 I don't mind trashing it. Only problem is it has a fairly bright Titan logo on the front pocket which is a bit annoying ....... going to have to try and find something to cover it up  .

I've a namebadge over mine. The BCUK patch wouldn't cover it, and after spending 3 hours trying to unpick it, I decided to find something to cover it. I've just got to replace the velcro on the pocets with buttons and it'll be fine.

Hi Simon1

I've got a very good condition SASS olive green gaberdine hooded windproof smock in a large size that you can have for £40 including p&p if you want it.

I got SASS to leave the chest pockets off so it doesn't look military - then I put a couple of zip up pockets on which have proved to be very handy.

Let me know if you fancy it and I'll whizz it off to you before the weekend.

Cheers

Joe.
